Rauma, Finland
Rauma (; ) is a town in Finland, on the western coast of the country. Rauma is in the Satakunta region, by the Gulf of Bothnia. The population of Rauma is approximately , while the sub-region has a population of approximately . It is the most populous municipality in Finland. Rauma lies north of Turku and south of Pori. Rauma is a List of municipalities of Norway, municipality in Møre og Romsdal Counties of Norway, county, Norway. It is part of the Districts of Norway, traditional district of Romsdal. The administrative centre is the town of Åndalsnes. Other settlements in Rauma include the villages of Måndalen, Innfjorden, Veblungsnes, Verma, Møre og Romsdal, Verma, Isfjorden (village), Isfjorden, Eidsbygda, Rødven, Åfarnes, and Mittet. Rauma (river)
The Rauma is a river that runs through the Romsdalen valley in Møre og Romsdal and Innlandet counties in Norway. It runs for from the lake Lesjaskogsvatnet in Lesja Municipality (in Innlandet county), through the valley all the way to the town of Åndalsnes in Rauma Municipality (in Møre og Romsdal county) where it empties into the Romsdalsfjorden. The river was once famous for its salmon-fishing, but since an infection with '' Gyrodactylus salaris'' only 5 to 10% of the original stock survives. This, however, has begun to recover rapidly after a successful revitalisation project. The salmon runs up to the '' Slettafossen'', a high combination of waterfalls and rapids more than upriver from the estuary. Rauma-class Missile Boat
The ''Rauma''-class missile boats (-luokan ohjusvene) are a class of missile boat in use by the Finnish Navy. It is the predecessor of the s. The ships were constructed at the Rauma shipyard (initially by Hollming and after the merger Finnyards) in Rauma, Finland. All the ships have their home port in Pansio. All four vessels underwent a 70 million EUR modernization program at the Western Shipyard in Teijo. The program includes the installation of a new version of the 9LV225 control and command system made by SAAB (the Mk.3 has been replaced by a Mk.4), the replacement of the Mistral SAM missiles with a MASS decoy system. The MASS system also replaces the Philax chaff and IR flares, the Thales Matilda radar warning system, and the six 103 mm rails for rocket illuminants, that were previously fitted. HNoMS Rauma (1939)
HNoMS ''Rauma'' was an ''Otra''-class minesweeper built in 1939 for the Royal Norwegian Navy. Captured by the Germans during the 1940 invasion of Norway and renamed ''Kamerun'', she was returned to the Norwegians after the end of the Second World War and recommissioned in 1947. ''Rauma'' remained in service until being sold for scrapping in 1963. Description As the threat of war in Europe became ever more clear the decision was made to improve the Royal Norwegian Navy's mine warfare capabilities. At first a number of ''2. class'' gunboats were rebuilt into minelayers and minesweepers, but with war looming it soon became clear that more capable vessels were required. Thus, two new purpose-built minesweepers were constructed at Nylands Verksted in Oslo; ''Otra'' and ''Rauma''. Some of the most distinctive characteristics of the dialect (as written) are the use of letters 'g' and 'b', which are uncommon in the Finnish language. Pronunciation of these letters is, however, is in between 'g' and 'b' and 'k' and 'p' of mainstream Finnish, and the shortening of words. The Rauma dialect also contains its own pitch accent. Rauma Line
The Rauma Line () is a long railway between the town of Åndalsnes (in Rauma Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county), and the village of Dombås (in Dovre Municipality in Innlandet county), in Norway. Running down the Romsdalen valley, the line opened between 1921 and 1924 as a branch of the Dovre Line, which connects to the cities of Oslo and Trondheim. Originally intended as the first stage to connect Ålesund (town), Ålesund, and possibly also Molde (town), Molde and Kristiansund (town), Kristiansund, no extensions have ever been realized. The unelectrified line is served four times daily with SJ Norge's NSB Class 93, Class 93, although in the summer the service only operates from Åndalsnes to Bjorli as a tourist service. FC Rauma
FC Rauma (abbreviated FCR) is a football club from Rauma, Finland. The club was formed in 1996 and their home ground is at the Äijänsuon stadion. The men's first team currently plays in the Kolmonen (Third Division). Background FCR was established on 26 November 1996 as a result of the merger of the Rauman NMKY, Rauman Kisa-Veljet and Uotilan Työväen Urheilijat clubs. The biggest problem in establishing the new club was that the existing clubs had to abandon their constitutions along with their history and activities. Uotilan Työväen Urheilijat (UTU) had the longest history of almost 50 years while the other clubs were each over 30 years old. FCR began their competitive life in 1997 by taking the place of UTU in the Kolmonen (Third Division).
