Rathangan GAA is a Gaelic games club based in Rathangan, County Kildare, Ireland. In more recent times, Rathangan GAA have been selected to play in the very successful RTÉ production Celebrity Bainisteoir. They were managed by Today FM DJ Ray D'Arcy as part of the RTE series, Celebrity Bainisteoir season 2. Rathangan (; ) is a town in the west of County Kildare, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. , the population was 3,263. It is located from the centre of Dublin, and from Kildare, at the intersection of the R401 road (Ireland), R401, R414 road, R414, and R419 road, R419 Regional road (Ireland), regional roads. The Slate River (Ireland), Slate River and the Grand Canal of Ireland, Grand Canal run through the town. The town is in a townland and Civil parishes in Ireland, civil parish of the same name. Rathangan is situated beside the Bog of Allen, and is in close proximity to the lowlands of the Curragh. History The Ringfort, rath or fort of ''Iomghain'', from which the town gets its name, has been dated to between 600 and 700 AD, and is situated to the northwest of the modern town on the Clonbulloge road. Gaelic games () are a set of sports played worldwide, though they are particularly popular in Ireland, where they originated. They include Gaelic football, hurling, Gaelic handball and rounders. Football and hurling, the most popular of the sports, are both organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). The Kildare Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition organised by Kildare GAA between the top clubs in County Kildare, Ireland. Kildare Intermediate Football Championship
The Kildare Intermediate Football Championship, or Kildare I.F.C., is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by mid-tier Kildare GAA clubs since 1928. The winners currently receive the Hugh Campion Cup in honour of the Suncroft GFC, Suncroft official who served as County Board Chairman from 1972 to 1981. Qualification for subsequent competitions Leinster Intermediate Club Football Championship The Kildare IFC winner qualifies for the Leinster Intermediate Club Football Championship. It is the only team from County Kildare to qualify for this competition.
