Rasul Jafarov
Rasul Jafarov (; born August 17, 1984) is a lawyer and prominent human rights defender in Azerbaijan. In April 2015, he was sentenced to six and a half years' imprisonment. He was considered a prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International. He received a pardon in March 2016. Education Jafarov is a lawyer by training, and holds a bachelor's and a master's degree in international and European law. He is an alumnus of Central European University. Activities Rasul Jafarov has worked as reporter for the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety (IRFS), where he investigated (as reporter) numerous criminal cases against journalists, prepared reports about the cases, and monitored the trials and legal correspondences. He is also a founder and chairman of the Human Rights Club (HRC), non-formal group, which has been denied legal registration by the Azerbaijani court since the group establishment in 2010. Amnesty () is defined as "A pardon extended by the government to a group or class of people, usually for a political offense; the act of a sovereign power officially forgiving certain classes of people who are subject to trial but have not yet been convicted." Anar Mammadli
Anar Mammadli (; born 1978) is a prominent human rights activist in Azerbaijan. He is active in observing and monitoring elections, and he has repeatedly criticized the conduct of elections by Azerbaijani authorities. On 16 December 2013, Mammadli was arrested and jailed, following outspoken criticism of presidential elections in October 2013. In spite of international protests, Mammadli was sentenced to more than 5 years in jail in May 2014. On 29 September 2014, while still in detention, Mammadli was awarded the Václav Havel Human Rights Prize by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which honours "outstanding" action in defence of human rights. Human Rights Tulip
The Human Rights Tulip () is an annual prize awarded by the Dutch ministry of Foreign Affairs to a human rights defender or organisation who promotes and supports human rights in innovative ways. The Human Rights Tulip was established in 2007 and presented for the first time on 10 December 2008 and designed by the artist duo Adelheid and Huub Kortekaas. The prize consists of a statuette and support worth €100.000 to assist the winning individual or organization to further develop and scale up their innovation. The procedure of awarding the Human Rights Tulip starts with an open nominating procedure. Intiqam Aliyev
Intiqam Kamil oglu Aliyev (; sometimes also spelled Intigam; born 30 November 1962, Pushkin (now Bilasuvar), Azerbaijan SSR) is an Azerbaijani lawyer and human rights activist. Along with other human rights activists, Aliyev was jailed in mid-2014 as part of a countrywide crackdown. In April 2015, the court sentenced him to 7.5 years in jail. Aliyev's arrest is widely considered to have been politically motivated. Aliyev had previously brought a number of cases against Azerbaijani authorities to the European Court of Human Rights.
