Rashid Behbudov Street ( az, Rəşid Behbudov küçəsi) is an arterial road in central Baku, Azerbaijan, named after famed Azerbaijani singer Rashid Behbudov. It begins at the south end of the Sabayil district of Baku and continues north, terminating at intersection with Bakikhanov Street intersecting Uzeyir Hajibeyov Street. Tbilisi Avenue ( az, Tbilisi prospekti) is an arterial road in northern part of Baku, capital of Azerbaijan. It begins at the intersection of Bakikhanov and Jaffar Jabbarly streets and continues north terminating at 20 January Circle by 20 January metro station. Overview The avenue was renamed Tbilisi Avenue from its earlier name Saray Highway on September 13, 1963, by the Baku Executive Soviet. Murtuza Mukhtarov
Murtuza Mukhtarov ( az, Murtuza Muxtarov) (1857 – 1920) was an Azerbaijani oil industrialist and millionaire who built the Mukhtarov Palace in Baku and the Mukhtarov Mosque in Vladikavkaz. Mukhtarov was born into a poor family in a village of Amirajan near Baku. Mukhtarov managed to become one of the most reputable drilling experts in Baku through his ability and many years of experience. He set up his own drilling company in 1890 and then diversified into oil production. The company specialized in manufacturing machinery for derricks and in drilling oil wells. He was the author of several patents on drilling equipment - unique feat amongst oil industrialists of the time. 26 Commissars Memorial
The 26 Baku Commissars Memorial was a Soviet-era monument located in Baku, Azerbaijan, that paid tribute to the 26 Baku Commissars from the Baku commune. The commune was overthrown in 1918 and the commissars later executed near Krasnovodsk (now Türkmenbaşy). The monument was constructed by sculptors I. Zeynalov and N. Mamedov, and architects G. Aleskerov and Alesker Huseynov, who eventually became a prominent politician in Azerbaijan. The remains of the Commissars were buried at the site of the memorial. Description The centre of this large square was a dramatic monument with a man coming out of the ground holding what was previously an "eternal flame" (later extinguished). Hovering above him was a large stone circle that was once inscribed with the names of the slain commissars. Pyotr Petrovich Schmidt (russian: Пётр Петрович Шмидт; – ) was one of the leaders of the Sevastopol Uprising during the Russian Revolution of 1905. Early years Pyotr Petrovich Schmidt was born in 1867 in Odessa, Russian Empire, now Ukraine, to the family of rear admiral and the head of Berdyansk port, Pyotr Petrovich Schmidt (1828-1888). His father Pyotr Petrovich Schmidt Sr participated in the defense of Sevastopol during the Siege of Sevastopol (1854). Neftchiler Avenue ( az, Neftçilər Prospekti; literally Oil Worker's Avenue) is an arterial road in Baku, Azerbaijan. It begins at the west end of the Bayil district of Baku and continues east until terminating at Javanshir Bridge (formerly Gagarin Bridge) intersecting Uzeyir Hajibeyov Street. Rashid Behbudov
Rashid Behbudov ( az, Rəşid Məcid oğlu Behbudov, Azerbaijani Cyrillic: Рашид Бейбутов; 14 December 1915 – 9 June 1989) was a Soviet and Azerbaijani singer and actor. Rashid Behbudov was born in Tbilisi in 1915. His father, Majid Behbudov, was a singer as well. In 1945, upon the invitation of Tofig Guliyev, Rashid Behbudov moved to Baku. In the same year, he was assigned the main role of Asgar in the film ''Arshin Mal Alan'' (''The Cloth Peddler''), based on a play by Uzeyir Hajibeyov. His role in this film combined with his vocal skills brought him fame throughout Azerbaijan. In a short time, Behbudov became also prominent Azerbaijani pop singer. His combination of vocal masterpieces ranged from classical performances to lyrical songs.
