Rainford, Lancashire
Rainford is a village and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of St Helens, Merseyside, England, north of St Helens. At the 2011 Census, the population was 7,779. Within the boundaries of the historic county of Lancashire, the earliest record of the village was in 1189. History Rainford is well known for its industrial past when it was a major manufacturer of clay smoking pipes. The nearby coal mines became worked out and closed before the Second World War. Until the mid-1960s, it was also a location for sand excavation, for use in the glass factories of St Helens. The Rookery is a large 17th-century manor house which was formerly a school and workhouse. Bill Ranford
William Edward Ranford (born December 14, 1966) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender and current director of goaltending for the Los Angeles Kings. He was selected in the third round of the 1985 NHL Entry Draft, 52nd overall, by the Boston Bruins. Over the course of fifteen NHL seasons Ranford played with Boston, the Edmonton Oilers, Washington Capitals, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Detroit Red Wings, winning two Stanley Cups, a Canada Cup, and the 1994 Men's Ice Hockey World Championships while playing for Canada. He is the only goaltender in history to be awarded the MVP of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Canada Cup/World Cup, & Men's Ice Hockey World Championship. Brendan Ranford
Brendan Ranford (born May 3, 1992) is a German-born Canadian professional ice hockey forward for HK 32 Liptovský Mikuláš in the Slovak Extraliga (Slovak). He was selected 209th overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers. He is the nephew of former National Hockey League goaltender Bill Ranford. Playing career Junior As a youth, Ranford played in the 2004 and 2005 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournaments with a minor ice hockey team from North Vancouver. Ranford first played junior hockey in his native Edmonton with the Edmonton Canadians in the Alberta Midget Hockey League before he was drafted 15th overall in the 2007 WHL draft by the Kamloops Blazers.
