Ramsay Family
The Ramsay family is a fictional family from the Australian soap opera ''Neighbours''. The family were one of three central families created by Reg Watson and introduced in the first episode of ''Neighbours'' in March 1985. Watson wanted the Ramsays to be humorous and rougher than the Robinson family. Ramsay Street, a cul-de-sac which is the central setting of the series, is named after the family. In 2001, the last Ramsay, Madge ( Anne Charleston), departed the series. Eight years later, a new generation of the Ramsay family was introduced. Creation and development The Ramsay family were one of three central families introduced to viewers when ''Neighbours'' began in 1985, created by the show's creator and executive producer Reg Watson. Reg Watson
Reginald James Watson (27 August 1926 – 8 October 2019) was an Australian television producer and screenwriter and executive. Watson was executive producer on the British soap opera ''Crossroads (British TV series), Crossroads'' and created Australian media exports serials such as ''Prisoner (TV series), Prisoner'', ''Neighbours'', ''The Young Doctors'' and ''Sons and Daughters (Australian TV series), Sons and Daughters''. Career Watson was born on 27 August 1926, and grew up on a sugar farm in Queensland. He began his career as an actor at the age of sixteen on Australian radio firstly as an actor and then as an announcer, before moving to the UK in 1955. He was soon hired by Associated TeleVision, ATV and in 1956, joined Ned Sherrin and Noele Gordon in Birmingham to establish the base of ATV Midlands where his job was as head of Light Entertainment. Daniel Robinson (Neighbours)
Daniel Robinson is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera ''Neighbours'', played by Tim Phillipps. Daniel was created in 1992 as the son of iconic ''Neighbours'' couple Scott Robinson (Neighbours), Scott (Jason Donovan) and Charlene Robinson, Charlene (Kylie Minogue). He was occasionally referred to in the episodes since then, but never seen on-screen. At the end of 2013, it was announced that Daniel would be introduced as a new family member for Paul Robinson (Neighbours), Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis). Francis Bell (actor)
Wayne Francis Earl Bell (18 April 1944 – 3 May 1994) was a New Zealand-born actor who achieved international stardom playing the part of original character Max Ramsay in the early years of the popular Australian soap opera, ''Neighbours''. During his career he also acted in Australian serials ''The Sullivans'' and '' Sons and Daughters''. He appeared in 15 films from 1976 until his death. Career Bell had a BA in philosophy and English in Auckland, New Zealand, and an MA in drama from Leeds University. He was a member of the National Theatre. Anne Charleston
Anne Charleston (born 30 December 1942) is an Australian-born former actress prominent in television, radio and theatre, notable for her career locally and in the United Kingdom in both England and Ireland. She began her career on the stage in the mid-1950s before moving onto the small screen in the early 1960s, appearing in various telefilms and series including several guest roles on various series by Crawford Productions. Madge Bishop
Madge Bishop (also Ramsay and Mitchell) is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera ''Neighbours'', played by Anne Charleston. She made her first appearance during the episode broadcast on 20 January 1986. Madge was introduced as the sister of original character Max Ramsay ( Francis Bell). She soon becomes the main matriarch of the Ramsay family. Madge arrives with her marriage in tatters, following a brief but passionate affair with Raymond Philips, her son in prison, and her daughter a runaway teen; she rolled up her sleeves and got a job in The Waterhole to support the family as a single mother. Cul-de-sac
A dead end, also known as a ''cul-de-sac'' (; , ), a no-through road or a no-exit road, is a street with only one combined inlet and outlet. Dead ends are added to roads in urban planning designs to limit traffic in residential areas. Some dead ends prohibit all-through traffic, while others allow cyclists, pedestrians, or other non-automotive traffic to pass through connecting easements or paths. The latter case is an example of filtered permeability. The International Federation of Pedestrians proposed calling such streets "living end streets" and to provide signage at the entry of the streets that clearly indicates non-automotive permeability. This would retain the dead end's primary function as a non-through road, but establish complete pedestrian and bicycle network connectivity. Ramsay Street
Ramsay Street is the fictional cul-de-sac in which the characters of the Australian soap opera ''Neighbours'' live. The street is set in the equally fictional Melbourne suburb of Erinsborough. ''Neighbours'' storylines primarily centre on the residents of the street, which was named after Jack Ramsay, the grandfather of original character Max Ramsay (Francis Bell (actor), Francis Bell). A blackjack game between Jack and Sam Robinson determined whom the street would be named after.
