Ramon Llull Novel Award
The Ramon Llull Novel Award (; ) is an honor given annually to a novel originally written in Catalan. Conceived in 1981 by editor , it is awarded by the Planeta publishing house in conjunction with the Government of Andorra. It confers a monetary prize, originally 250,000 pesetas and now (). It recognizes works of the greatest economic value in the Catalan language. The original objective of the award was not only to encourage the writing of books in Catalan, but also to provide the greatest possible social and commercial dissemination, both to the works and to the authors. Ramon Llull
Ramon Llull (; ; – 1316), sometimes anglicized as ''Raymond Lully'', was a philosopher, theologian, poet, missionary, Christian apologist and former knight from the Kingdom of Majorca. He invented a philosophical system known as the ''Art'', conceived as a type of universal logic to prove the truth of Christian doctrine to interlocutors of all faiths and nationalities. The ''Art'' consists of a set of general principles and combinatorial operations. It is illustrated with diagrams. A prolific writer, he is also known for his literary works written in Catalan, which he composed to make his ''Art'' accessible to a wider audience. In addition to Catalan and Latin, he also probably wrote in Arabic (although no texts in Arabic survive). His books were translated into Occitan, French, and Castilian during his lifetime. Joan Barril i Cuixart (20 January 1952 – 13 December 2014) was a Catalan journalist and writer. He was born in Barcelona, Spain. Najat El Hachmi
Najat El Hachmi (born July 2, 1979) is a Moroccan-Spanish writer based in Catalonia. She holds a degree in Arabic Studies from the University of Barcelona. She is the author of a personal essay on her bicultural identity, and three previous novels, the first of which earned her the 2008 Ramon Llull Prize, the 2009 Prix Ulysse, and was a finalist for the 2009 Prix Méditerranée Étranger. Life El Hachmi was born in Beni Sidel, province of Nador. At the age of 8 she immigrated with her family to Catalonia, Spain. El Hachmi studied Arab literature at the University of Barcelona and currently resides in Granollers. She acquired the Spanish nationality in 2006. Màrius Serra i Roig (born May 1, 1963, in Barcelona, Catalonia) is a Spanish writer, journalist, translator and television maker. Serra has a degree in English philology, and in addition to his writing career, is a professor of English. Lluís-Anton Baulenas (; born 21 September 1958 in Barcelona) is a Catalan novelist, translator and playwright.
