Radhika Hettiarachchi
Radhika Hettiarachchi (born 14 November 1977) is a Sri Lankan rugby union player and coach. He captained both Sri Lanka national rugby union team and Sri Lanka national rugby sevens team. He is regarded as one of the finest rugby sevens players to have emerged from Sri Lanka and he is also nicknamed as Iron Man of Sri Lanka Rugby. Career He pursued his primary and secondary education at the Dharmaraja College in Kandy and joined Central Province XV rugby side just after leaving the school. He later signed up for Kandy Sports Club in 1997 where he spent major part of his club career and also had brief spells with Colombo Hockey and Football Club. He turned for Kandy SC from 1997 to 2005 and then after a gap of three years he returned to Kandy SC in 2008 and played for the club until 2010. Kandy Sports Club (rugby)
Kandy Sports Club (better known as Kandy SC) is a Division 'A' rugby union team, based in Kandy, Sri Lanka, competing in the Dialog Rugby League. The club has been the most successful Sri Lankan club in the Sri Lanka Rugby Championship, winning 18 league titles in the last twenty years, which is the most wins by any club since the expanded competition commenced in 1950. The club has also won twenty Clifford Cups and in the period between 1995 and 2012 the club did not lose a Clifford Cup title, although in 1998 there was no tournament and in 2006 the club withdrew from the tournament. Kandy SC had won the league title for a record nine consecutive years between 2000 and 2009. 2009 Carlton Rugby 7s
The 2009 Carlton Rugby 7s, had previously been conducted as the Singer Sri Lankan Airlines Rugby 7s competition but was rebranded as the Carlton Sri Lanka Rugby 7s under a new partnership between the Tharunyata Hetak Foundation and the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU). The tournament was the sixth and final leg of the Asian Sevens Series for the year. The Carlton 7s were held on 27–29 November 2008 at Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo, involving 12 teams from the Asian rugby playing nations of Japan, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei, China, Thailand, Iran, Jordan, Brunei, Pakistan and Malaysia, together with the host nation, Sri Lanka. In the Cup final Japan defeated Malaysia 26 points to 7, with Thailand winning the Plate and Pakistan the Bowl. Sri Lanka Rugby is the governing body for rugby union in Sri Lanka. It is one of the oldest governing bodies in the world, being founded as the Ceylon Rugby Football Union in 1908. History The Ceylon Rugby Football Union was founded in 1908. Singapore Sevens
The Singapore Sevens is an annual rugby sevens tournament contested by national teams. It was first hosted as part of the IRB World Sevens Series in 2002. The Standard Chartered Bank was the original title sponsor. It was effectively replaced in the calendar by the Australian Sevens for the 2006-07 season. The tournament returned as an official event within the Asian Sevens Series in 2013. Singapore then secured a four-year deal to host a leg of the Sevens World Series starting from the 2015–16 season.
