RMS Saxonia (1954)
RMS ''Saxonia'' was a British passenger liner built by John Brown & Company at Clydebank, Scotland for the Cunard Steamship Company for their Liverpool-Montreal service. She was the first of four almost identical sister ships built by Browns between 1954 and 1957 for UK-Montreal service. The other three were the ''Ivernia'' (1955), ''Carinthia'' (1956) and ''Sylvania'' (1957) The ''Saxonia'' and ''Ivernia'' were extensively rebuilt in 1962-63 as dual purpose liner/cruise ships. They were renamed ''Carmania'' and ''Franconia'' respectively and painted in the same green cruising livery as the older ''Caronia''. ''Carmania'' continued transatlantic crossings and cruises until September 1967 when she closed out Cunard's Montreal service. The Cunard Line ( ) is a British shipping and an international cruise line based at Carnival House at Southampton, England, operated by Carnival UK and owned by Carnival Corporation & plc. Since 2011, Cunard and its four ships have been registered in Hamilton, Bermuda. In 1839, Samuel Cunard was awarded the first British transatlantic steamship mail contract, and the next year formed the British and North American Royal Mail Steam-Packet Company in Glasgow with shipowner Sir George Burns together with Robert Napier, the famous Scottish steamship engine designer and builder, to operate the line's four pioneer paddle steamers on the Liverpool–Halifax–Boston route. RMS Ivernia
was a , built in 1955 by John Brown & Company at Clydebank, Scotland for Cunard Line, for their transatlantic passenger service between the UK and Canada. In 1963 she was rebuilt as a cruise ship and renamed RMS ''Franconia'', after the famous pre-war liner . She continued to sail for Cunard until being withdrawn from service and laid up in 1971. In 1973 she was sold to the Soviet Union's Far Eastern Shipping Company and, renamed SS ''Fedor Shalyapin'', cruised around Australia and the far East. In 1980 she was transferred to the Black Sea Shipping Company fleet, and for a time returned to cruising in the Mediterranean and around Europe. In 1989 she was transferred again, to the Odessa Cruise Company, and continued her career as a cruise ship until 1994. The first RMS ''Saxonia'' was a passenger ship of the British Cunard Line. Between 1900 and 1925, ''Saxonia'' operated on North Atlantic and Mediterranean passenger routes, and she saw military service during World War I (1914–1918). ''Saxonia''s sister ship was ''SS Ivernia, Ivernia''. Design Around 1900, the Cunard Line faced tight competition from the British White Star Line and the German lines Norddeutscher Lloyd and Hamburg America (HAPAG). RMS Scythia
RMS ''Scythia'' was a Cunard ocean liner. She sailed on her maiden voyage in 1921, and became a troop and supply ship during the Second World War. ''Scythia'' was the longest serving Cunard liner until 4 September 2005, when her record was surpassed by ''Queen Elizabeth 2''. RMS ''Ascania'' was an ocean liner operated by the Cunard Line. She was launched on 20 December 1923 at the Armstrong Whitworth, Armstrong Whitworth Shipbuilders Ltd yard in Newcastle-upon-Tyne; the fifth of Cunard's six A-class liners. Due to unforeseen cost overruns, the vessel was not completed until May 1925. Following service in a number of military roles during the Second World War, she was refitted and returned to civilian use in 1950, finally retiring in 1956. RMS Caronia (1947)
RMS ''Caronia'' was a passenger ship of the Cunard Line (then Cunard White Star Line). Launched on 30 October 1947, she served with Cunard until 1967. She was nicknamed the "Green Goddess" after her light green hull livery. She was one of the first "dual-purpose" ships, built both for 2-class transatlantic crossings and all 1st-class cruising. After leaving Cunard she was briefly ''Caribia'' in 1969, after which she was laid up in New York until 1974, when she was sold for scrap. While being towed to Taiwan for scrapping, she was caught in a storm on 12 August. After her tow lines were cut, she repeatedly crashed on the rocky breakwater outside Apra Harbor, Guam and broke into three sections.
