Sainte-Catherine-de-la-Jacques-Cartier () is a town in Quebec, Canada, located in the regional county municipality of La Jacques-Cartier, in the administrative region of Capitale-Nationale. The Jacques-Cartier River passes through the city. Local attractions include bicycle paths, the Anne-Hébert Social and Cultural Centre, the Ice Hotel and the Duchesnay Inn. Shannon, Quebec
Shannon is a city in Quebec, Canada, along the Jacques-Cartier River northwest of Quebec City. It was formed in December 1946 when it separated from the territory of Sainte-Catherine-de-Fossambault, following protests of this part of the population against the municipal taxes. The community was founded by Irish immigrants and once contained a substantial English-speaking population, though today it is chiefly French-speaking. Its longtime principal economic activity was the exploitation of wood bound for the shipyards of Quebec. The town is located near CFB Valcartier, an important Canadian military base. History The area was first settled in the 19th century, by mostly Irish immigrants. Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier () is a municipality in the Capitale-Nationale region of Quebec, Canada, located in the Jacques-Cartier River valley. It is home to the Canadian Forces Base Valcartier since World War I. History In 1647, Robert Giffard de Moncel was granted the Saint-Gabriel seignory that became property of the Jesuits in 1667 and Crown property in 1800. Around 1816, John Neilson (1776-1848), together with Andrew Stuart and Louis Moquin, Quebec lawyers, obtained some 50 concessions in the Saint-Gabriel seignory. This marked the start of the Val-Cartier settlement that was intended to receive Irish and Scottish colonizers. Charlesbourg, Quebec City
Charlesbourg is a borough of Quebec City, in the northeastern part of the city, west of the borough of Beauport. History The origins of Charlesbourg began with the concession of the seigniory of Notre-Dame-des-Anges in 1626. The seigniory extended from the Charles River northward, encompassing the modern boroughs of Limoilou and Charlesbourg. In 1665, the new Intendant of Justice, Jean Talon, set out to establish three new villages further north on the plateau. That caused friction with the Jesuits who were the seignors of the area. The first of the villages consisted of a 25- arpent square, in which a five-arpent square (the "trait carré") was reserved for the church, presbytery and cemetery. Canadian Forces Base Valcartier (CFB Valcartier), now re-designated 2 Canadian Division Support Base Valcartier (2 CDSB Valcartier), is a Canadian Forces base located in the municipality of Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier, north northwest of Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. The 2nd Canadian Division is stationed at the base, comprising the 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group and the 2nd Canadian Division Support Group. Origins CFB Valcartier was originally erected as a military training camp in August 1914 as part of the mobilization of the Canadian Expeditionary Force at the onset of World War I.
