Qian Yunhui
Qian Yunhui (, 1957 – 25 December 2010) was an elected and popular eastern Zhejiang province village head who had a long history of petitioning against alleged abuses by local government, who died on December 25, 2010 after being crushed by the front wheel of a truck loaded with crushed rocks for a nearby building site operated by the Yueqing Electric Power Plant. Shortly after his death, rumors emerged stating that Qian was held on the ground by four men in security personnel uniforms while the truck was driven slowly over him. A government press conference a week later announced that Qian had died in an ordinary traffic accident, struck and killed crossing the road. An eyewitness by the name of Qian Chengwei () said that he saw that four uniformed men held the victim down on the ground while the truck went on top of him. Wenzhou
Wenzhou; Chinese postal romanization, historically known as Wenchow is a prefecture-level city in China's Zhejiang province. Wenzhou is located at the extreme southeast of Zhejiang, bordering Lishui, Zhejiang, Lishui to the west, Taizhou, Zhejiang, Taizhou to the north, and the province of Fujian to the south. Wu Gan
Wu Gan (, born 14 February 1972) is a Chinese blogger and human rights activist from Fuqing, Fujian who uses the internet name "Super Vulgar Butcher" () or "Butcher Wu Gan" (), and is known for his provocative signs and banners in support of his protests. He was sentenced to eight years in prison in December 2017 for subversion of state power, and was last incarcerated in Qingliu Prison in Fujian until his release in May 2023. Human rights activities Wu has been involved in human rights activism since May 2008 when he supported the woman charged with murder in the Deng Yujiao incident. Since then he has advocated online and on the streets for a number of human rights cases, using provocative T-shirts, banners and performance art to highlight the cases he fights for. Xu Zhiyong
Xu Zhiyong ( zh, s=许志永, p=Xǔ Zhìyǒng; born March 2, 1973) is a Chinese civil rights activist and formerly a lecturer at the Beijing University of Post and Telecommunications. He was one of the founders of the NGO Open Constitution Initiative and an active rights lawyer in China who campaigned against corruption and helped those underprivileged. He is the main founder and icon of the New Citizens' Movement in China. In January 2014 he was sentenced to four years in prison for "gathering crowds to disrupt public order". He was detained again on February 15, 2020, in the southern city of Guangzhou after two months in hiding, for his participation in a meeting of rights activists and lawyers in Xiamen in December 2019 in which "democratic transition in China" was discussed.
