Purple Noon
''Purple Noon'' (; ; also known as ''Full Sun'', ''Blazing Sun'', ''Lust for Evil'', and ''Talented Mr. Ripley'') is a 1960 crime thriller film starring Alain Delon (in his first major role), alongside Marie Laforêt and Maurice Ronet; Romy Schneider, Delon's girlfriend at the time, makes a brief cameo appearance in the film. The film follows Tom Ripley, a young American sent to Italy to convince wealthy playboy Philippe Greenleaf to return home. René Clément
René Clément (; 18 March 1913 – 17 March 1996) was a French film director and screenwriter. He is known for directing the films ''The Battle of the Rails'' (1946), ''Forbidden Games'' (1952), ''Gervaise (film), Gervaise'' (1956), ''Purple Noon'' (1960), and ''Is Paris Burning? (film), Is Paris Burning'' (1966). He received numerous accolades including five prizes at the Cannes Film Festival and the Honorary César in 1984. Elvire Popesco
Elvira Popescu (; in French language, French, Elvire Popesco; 10 May 1894 – 11 December 1993) was a Romanian people, Romanian-French people, French stage and film actress and theatre director. During the 1930s and 1940s, she starred in a number of French comedy films. Life and career Popescu was born in Bucharest, and studied drama at the National University of Music Bucharest, Music and Drama Conservatory in her native city, under the guidance of Constantin Nottara and Aristizza Romanescu. Slipway
A slipway, also known as boat ramp or launch or boat deployer, is a ramp on the shore by which ships or boats can be moved to and from the water. They are used for building and repairing ships and boats, and for launching and retrieving small boats on trailers towed by automobiles and flying boats on their undercarriage. Boom (sailing)
In sailing, a boom is a spar (sailing), spar (pole), along the of a fore and aft rigged sail, that greatly improves control of the angle and shape of the sail. The primary action of the boom is to keep the ''foot'' flatter when the sail angle is away from the centerline of the boat. The boom also serves as an attachment point for more sophisticated control lines. Because of the improved sail control it is rare to find a non-headsail without a boom, but lateen sails, for instance, are loose-footed. In some modern applications, the sail is rolled up into the boom for storage or reefing (shortening sail).
