Purple Line (Tel Aviv Light Rail)
The Purple Line is a light rail transit (LRT) line under construction in the Gush Dan, Tel Aviv metropolitan Area in Israel. The line will operate as part of the planned Tel Aviv Light Rail, Tel Aviv metropolitan area mass transit system and is expected to be the second line to open. The line will connect the city centre of Tel Aviv with its eastern suburbs of Yehud and Giv'at Shmuel. The Purple Line is planned to be long and will serve 43 stations, all at street level. Construction started in 2018 and the line is expected to open in 2026 at an estimated cost of New Israeli Shekel, NIS 11 billion. The Tel Aviv transportation system is seen as the hub of the Israeli transport network in terms of road, rail, and air transport. The Red Line will be the first section of a light rail system in the Tel Aviv metropolitan area, known as the Tel Aviv Light Rail. The line will run from Bat Yam in the south to Petah Tikva in the northeast with a significant portion of it underground. The total cost of the red line is estimated at NIS 11 billion or, approximately US$3 billion. Construction began in 2011 and is expected to be completed in February 2023, after numerous delays. Tel Aviv HaHagana railway station is a major railway station on the Ayalon Railway in southern Tel Aviv, Israel, serving most lines of Israel Railways. It is located in the median of the Ayalon Highway, north of Highway 1 and 400 meters east of the Tel Aviv Central Bus Station. Kfar Shalem ( he, כפר שלם, lit: Shalem Village) is a neighbourhood in southeastern Tel Aviv, Israel. Salameh Street / Shalma Street in Tel Aviv is named after the Arab village of Salamah located on the site prior to 1948. History Until 1948, the Arab village of Salama stood where Kfar Shalem is now located. In 1931, there were 800 houses and 3,691 residents in the village. On the eve of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, the village had 7,600 residents, most of whom were refugees from the surrounding area, who had moved to Salama. The residents also included some wealthy people from Jaffa who built country homes there.
