Project Nomad
''Nomad'' is a 1993 Space trading game, space trading and combat game developed by Intense! Interactive and Papyrus Design Group. It was published by GameTek for MS-DOS. ''Nomad'' combines elements of alien diplomacy, trading, exploration, and combat. It has been compared to ''Starflight'' and ''Frontier: Elite II, Elite 2''. Plot The story of ''Nomad'' changed between its early design and its ultimate commercial release. Originally, the game was to be titled ''Space Mountain'', and act as a tie-in to the Disneyland Space Mountain, roller coaster of the same name. Introductory narration was recorded for the game which described the player's character climbing aboard the model ship at Space Mountain only to discover that it is a real spacecraft. It is then launched unexpectedly into the Earth's orbit with the unwitting protagonist still aboard. The connection with Disneyland was abandoned for the commercial release of ''Nomad''. Papyrus Design Group
Papyrus Design Group, Inc. was a computer game developer founded in 1987 by David Kaemmer and CEO Omar Khudari. Based in Watertown, Massachusetts, Watertown, Massachusetts, it is best known for its series of realistic sim racing games based on the NASCAR and IndyCar leagues, as well as the unique ''Grand Prix Legends''. Papyrus was acquired by Sierra On-Line in late 1995 and Omar Khudari left Papyrus soon after that. Covox Speech Thing
The Covox Speech Thing is an external digital-to-analog converter (DAC) that plugs into the parallel printer port of a PC. It converts 8-bit digital sound using a simple R-2R resistor ladder into an analog signal output. The Speech Thing was introduced on December 18, 1987 by Covox, Inc. of Eugene, Oregon, for about US$70 () and priced US$79.95 as of 1989. People soon started to build their own (DIY) variants, since its communication protocol and DAC is simple and only requires soldering a few cheap parts. GameTek was an American video game publisher based in North Miami Beach, Florida, known for publishing video game adaptations of game shows in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Privateer
A privateer is a private person or vessel which engages in commerce raiding under a commission of war. Since Piracy, robbery under arms was a common aspect of seaborne trade, until the early 19th century all merchant ships carried arms. A sovereign or delegated authority issued commissions, also referred to as Letter of marque, letters of marque, during wartime. The commission empowered the holder to carry on all forms of hostility permissible at sea by the usages of war. This included attacking foreign vessels and taking them as prizes and taking crews prisoner for exchange. Captured ships were subject to condemnation and sale under prize (law), prize law, with the proceeds divided by percentage between the privateer's sponsors, shipowners, captains and crew.
