Mbeya is a city located in south west Tanzania, Africa, with an urban population of 649,000 in 2023. Mbeya is the capital of the surrounding rural Mbeya Region, Mbeya region (population, with Mbeya, totals approx. 2 million). The Tanzania Mainland Premier League () is a top-level Tanzania, Tanzanian professional association football, football league, governed by the Tanzania Premier league Board, TPLB under Tanzania Football Federation. History The league was first organized in Dar es Salaam in 1921 and by 1929 had six participants. In the 1930s, the league included street teams such as ''Arab Sports'' (Kariakoo) and ''New Strong Team'' (Kisutu), which primarily consisted of Arab and African players. The Sudanese community had a team that joined the league in 1941 although by the mid-1940s the team had split up. The 2023–24 Tanzanian Premier League (known as the NBC Premier League for sponsorship reasons) was the 59th season of the Tanzanian Premier League, the top-tier football league in Tanzania (mainland only), since its establishment in 1965. The season started on 15 August 2023 and ended on 28 May 2024. The winners (Young Africans, their third consecutive title win and twenty-seventh overall) and runners-up ( Azam) qualified for the Champions League. The third and fourth-placed teams (Simba and Coastal Union) qualified for the Confederation Cup.
