2023–24 Tanzanian Premier League
The 2023–24 Tanzanian Premier League (known as the NBC Premier League for sponsorship reasons) was the 59th season of the Tanzanian Premier League, the top-tier football league in Tanzania (mainland only), since its establishment in 1965. The season started on 15 August 2023 and ended on 28 May 2024. The winners (Young Africans, their third consecutive title win and twenty-seventh overall) and runners-up ( Azam) qualified for the Champions League. The third and fourth-placed teams (Simba and Coastal Union) qualified for the Confederation Cup. The thirteenth and fourteenth-placed teams (JKT Tanzania and Tabora United) qualified for the Tanzanian Premier League play-off, both winning and retaining their places in the league. The bottom two teams (Geita Gold and Mtibwa Sugar) were relegated to the 2024–25 Tanzanian Championship League. The Tanzania Mainland Premier League () is a top-level Tanzania, Tanzanian professional association football, football league, governed by the Tanzania Premier league Board, TPLB under Tanzania Football Federation. History The league was first organized in Dar es Salaam in 1921 and by 1929 had six participants. In the 1930s, the league included street teams such as ''Arab Sports'' (Kariakoo) and ''New Strong Team'' (Kisutu), which primarily consisted of Arab and African players. The Sudanese community had a team that joined the league in 1941 although by the mid-1940s the team had split up. Other teams in the league's early history included the Khalsa, Khalsas, an exclusively Sikhs, Sikh team, and the Ilala Staff, a team of Ilala District, Ilalan residents. In 1942, clubs from public institutions such as the Government School, Post office, Post Office, Railways SC, King's African Rifles SC, Police SC, and the Medical Department started to dominate the league.
