Preventive Security Service
The Palestinian Preventive Security (PPS; ), also known as Preventive Security Force (PSF; ) or Preventive Security Service (PSS), is one of the security organs of the State of Palestine. It was established in 1994 by president Yasser Arafat in accordance with the Oslo Accords. The PPS is an internal intelligence organization, part of the Palestinian Security Services, and led by the Minister of the Interior. Its main tasks are protecting the internal security of Palestine and the Palestinian Authority, and preventing crimes which target governmental departments and public bodies and institutions. Jibril Mahmoud Muhammad Rajoub (; born 14 May 1953), also known by his kunya Abu Rami (), is a Palestinian political leader, legislator, and former militant. He leads the Palestinian Football Association and the Palestine Olympic Committee. General Intelligence Service (Palestine)
The Palestinian General Intelligence Service (GIS; ) is an intelligence agency responsible for internal security and intelligence within the Palestinian territories. It was established in 1994 as part of the Palestinian Authority's efforts to create a unified security apparatus in the territories under its control. Majed Faraj is the current head of GIS. The PGIS operates under the supervision of the Palestinian president, and the president appoints its director. Its primary responsibilities include gathering and analyzing intelligence on potential security threats, investigating crimes, and maintaining order and stability within the Palestinian territories. Palestinian Civil Police Force
The Palestinian Civil Police Force (PCP; ) is the police, Civil Police organization tasked with traditional law enforcement duties in the autonomous territory governed by the Palestinian National Authority. The Civil Police is a part of the Palestinian Security Services. Since the Battle of Gaza (2007), Hamas takeover of the Gaza Strip the control of the Civil Police in Gaza Strip was placed under the jurisdiction of Hamas, while the Police forces in the West Bank remain under Palestinian National Authority. Palestinian National Security Forces
The Palestinian National Security Forces (NSF; ) are the paramilitary security forces of the Palestinian National Authority. The name may either refer to all National Security Forces, including some special services but not including the Interior Security Forces, the Presidential Guard and General Intelligence, or refer to the main force within the National Security Forces. Since the signing of the Oslo Accords, these forces operate in areas controlled by the PNA. In 2003, the organizations were merged into the Palestinian Security Services. The Palestinian National Security Forces engage in various activities, including general law enforcement. A rough estimate of the total strength as of 2007 is 42,000 troops. As the Israeli-Palestinian conflict goes on, the security forces notably co-operate with other law enforcement agencies, such as arresting militant sub-groups and assisting the Israeli government with prosecuting those picked up. The Palestinian Civil Defence (PCD; ) is one of the main branches of the Palestinian Security Services under direct responsibility of the Minister of the Interior. Beitunia
Beitunia (), also Bitunya, is a Palestinian city located west of Ramallah and north of Jerusalem, in the Ramallah and al-Bireh Governorate of Palestine, in the central West Bank. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, the city had a population of 26,604 in 2017, making it the third largest locality in its governorate after al-Bireh and Ramallah. History Potsherds from the Byzantine, Mamluk and early Ottoman period have been found. A 1982 survey found two pillars and remnants of an olive press, along with another pillar located in one of the courtyards. Operation Defensive Shield ( ) was a 2002 Israeli military operation in the Israeli-occupied West Bank during the Second Intifada. Lasting for just over a month, it was the largest combat operation in the territory since the 1967 Arab–Israeli War. The operation began with an Israeli incursion into Ramallah, where Yasser Arafat was placed under siege at his compound. This was followed by successive incursions into the six largest West Bank cities and their surrounding localities. Israel's military moved into Tulkarm and Qalqilya on April 1, into Bethlehem on April 2, and into Jenin and Nablus on April 3.
