Preved (russian: Преве́д) is a term used in the Padonkaffsky jargon, a meme in the Russian-speaking Internet which developed out of a heavily circulated picture, and consists of choosing alternative spellings for words for comic effect. The picture, a modified version of John Lurie's watercolor ''Bear Surprise'', whose popularity was stoked by emails and blogs, features a man and a woman having sex in the clearing of a forest, being surprised by a bear calling "Surprise!" with its paws raised. In later Russian adaptations, the bear shouts "Preved!" (a deliberate misspelling of ''privet'', – "hi!"). In keeping with a popular trend of image manipulation, the iconic bear — dubbed (''Medved''), a misspelling of ("bear") — has been inserted into many other pictures where his appearance adds a new dimension to the joke. ''Bear Surprise'' (often dubbed just ''Surprise!'') is a watercolor painting by American painter/musician John Lurie, the style of which has been described as primitivist and naïve. The painting depicts a couple having sex in a meadow, with a bear standing in front of them, with forepaws in a distinctive position. There is a speech bubble beside the head of the bear, which reads "Surprise!". The painting features in a popular internet meme in Russian online culture. It has been described by Victor Sonkin in ''The Moscow Times'' as having "gained vast popularity with the speed of an avalanche". Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev ( rus, links=no, Дмитрий Анатольевич Медведев, p=ˈdmʲitrʲɪj ɐnɐˈtolʲjɪvʲɪtɕ mʲɪdˈvʲedʲɪf; born 14 September 1965) is a Russian politician who has been serving as the deputy chairman of the Security Council of Russia since 2020. Padonkaffsky jargon (russian: язык падонкафф, ''yazyk padonkaff'') or Olbanian (, ''olbanskiy'') is a cant language developed by a subculture of Runet called padonki (russian: падонки). It started as an Internet slang language originally used in the Russian Internet community. It is comparable to the English-based Leet. Padonkaffsky jargon became so popular that the former President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev jokingly suggested that Olbanian be taught in schools. John Lurie (born December 14, 1952) is an American musician, painter, actor, director, and producer. He co-founded the Lounge Lizards jazz ensemble; has acted in 19 films, including ''Stranger than Paradise'' and ''Down by Law''; has composed and performed music for 20 television and film works; and he produced, directed, and starred in the ''Fishing with John'' television series. In 1996 his soundtrack for '' Get Shorty'' was nominated for a Grammy Award, and his album ''The Legendary Marvin Pontiac: Greatest Hits'' has been praised by critics and fellow musicians.
