Premanand Suvarna Chandrak
The Premanand Suvarna Chandrak or Premanand Gold Medal is a literary honour awarded every two years, though sometimes annually, to an established Gujarati writer in order to recognize and promote excellence in Gujarati writing. It is given by an institute of literature, the Premanand Sahitya Bhavan of Vadodara, in remembrance of the Gujarati poet with which it shares its name, Premanand Bhatt. Established in 1916 as the Gujarati Sahitya Sabha and renamed to be the Premanand Sahitya Bhavan in 1944, the organization and institute started this medal in 1983. Madhu Rye
Madhu Rye is a Gujarati playwright, novelist and story writer. Born in Gujarat and educated at Calcutta, he started writing in the 1960s and became known for his stories and plays. His experience at the University of Hawaii introduced him to experimental writing and improvisations as writing aid, which later led to a movement against absurd theatre. He moved to the US in 1974 and has lived there since. He chiefly wrote novels, short stories and plays. His plays were successful and have been adapted into several languages and media. He has adapted his novels into plays and some plays into novels. Suman Shah is a Gujarati language critic, short story writer, novelist, essayist, editor and translator from Gujarat, India. He won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2008 for his short story collection ''Fatfatiyun''. He has written both in the modern and in the postmodern eras in Gujarati literature. Mohan Parmar
Mohan Parmar (born 15 March 1948) is a Gujarati language short story writer, novelist and critic. Parmar won the Sahitya Akademi Award for Gujarati in 2011 for his short story collection ''Anchalo''. He was earlier editor of ''Hayati'', an organ of Gujarati Dalit Sahitya Akademi, along with Harish Mangalam. He served as deputy editor of ''Parab'', a monthly journal of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad. Dhiru Parikh
Dhiru Ishwarlal Parikh (31 August 1933 – 9 May 2021) was an Indian Gujarati poet, short story writer and critic. He was an editor of '' Kavilok'' and '' Kumar'', Gujarati literary magazines. Biography Dhiru Parikh was born on 31 August 1933 at Viramgam near Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. He completed his matriculation in 1951 from the town. He completed B.A. in 1955 from L. D. Arts College, M.A. in 1958 from Gujarat University and was awarded Ph.D. in 1967 for his thesis, ''Rasyugma Prakruti Nirupan''. Since 1955, he taught at C. U. Shah College. Pravin Darji (born 23 August 1944) is Gujarati essayist, poet, critic and editor from India. He was awarded Padma Shri in 2011. Life Pravin Darji was born on 23 August 1944 in Mahelol village in Panchmahal district of Gujarat, India. He completed SSC in 1961 and BA in Gujarati and Sanskrit in 1965. Chandrakant Amritlal Topiwala (born 7 August 1936) is a Gujarati language poet and critic from Gujarat, India. Early life Topiwala was born on 7 August 1936 at Vadodara, to Amritlal and Lilavati. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in Gujarati from the University of Bombay-affiliated Saint Xavier's College in 1958, and received his Masters in 1960. He completed his PhD in 1982 from Gujarat University. Career Topiwala taught Gujarati language at K H Madhvani College, Porbandar from 1961 to 1965. Jayant Himmatlal Pathak (20 October 1920 – 1 September 2003) was a Gujarati poet and literary critic from Gujarat, India. He was the president of the Gujarati Sahitya Parishad from 1990 – 1991. Rajendra Shah (author)
Rajendra Keshavlal Shah (28 January 1913 – 2 January 2010) was a lyrical poet who wrote in Gujarati. Born in Kapadvanj, he authored more than 20 collections of poems and songs, mainly on the themes of the beauty of nature, and about the everyday lives of indigenous peoples and fisherfolk communities. In his poems using Sanskrit metrics, he was influenced by Rabindranath Tagore. He is considered one of the giants of post Gandhi-era in Gujarati literature. Among his various professions, Shah was also a publisher in Mumbai, where he launched the poetry magazine '' Kavilok'' in 1957. The press itself became an important Sunday meeting-place for Gujarati poets. Niranjan Narhari Bhagat (18 May 1926 – 1 February 2018) was an Indian Gujarati language poet, critic and translator who won the 1999 Sahitya Akademi Award for Gujarati language for his critical work ''Gujarati Sahiyta – Purvardha Uttarardha''. He was also an English poet, and had written over a hundred poems in English, most being written in the style of ''Gitanjali''.
