Jayant Pathak
Jayant Himmatlal Pathak (20 October 1920 – 1 September 2003) was a Gujarati poet and literary critic from Gujarat, India. He was the president of the Gujarati Sahitya Parishad from 1990 – 1991. He received several awards, including the Sahitya Akademi Award, the Kumar Suvarna Chandrak, the Narmad Suvarna Chandrak, the Ranjitram Suvarna Chandrak and the Uma-Snehrashmi Prize. The Jayant Pathak Poetry Award is named after him. Early life Pathak was born into a Gauda Brahmins family on 20 October 1920, at Goth, a village now in the Rajgadh taluka of Panchmahal district, Gujarat, India, to Ichchhaba and Himmatram Joitaram Pathak. "Bachudo" (Lit. Small Child) was his childhood nickname. Pathak was raised by his grandfather Joitaram, because his father Himmatram died when he was about ten years old. Panchmahal District
Panchmahal, also known as Panch Mahals, is a district in the eastern portion of Gujarat State western India. ''Panch-mahal'' means "five tehsils/talukas" (5 sub-divisions), and refers to the five sub-divisions that were transferred by the Maharaja Jivajirao Scindia of Gwalior State to the British: Godhra, Dahod, Halol, Kalol and Jhalod, Devgadh Baria. The district had a population of 2,390,776 of which 12.51% were urban as of 2001. The district is located on eastern end of the state. Vishnuprasad Trivedi
Vishnuprasad Ranchhodlal Trivedi (4 July 1899 – 10 November 1991) was a Gujarati language, Gujarati literary critic from India. Early life Trivedi was born in Umreth, Bombay Presidency on July 4, 1899. After his education at institutions including Borsad, Thasra, Kapadvanj and Nadiad, he matriculated in 1916 from the Government High School of Nadiad and was admitted to Gujarat College, Ahmedabad. At Gujarat College, he studied under Anandshankar Dhruv. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in 1920, with Sanskrit and other English subjects. He completed his Master of Arts in 1923 focusing on Sanskrit and Gujarati subjects. In 1921, he joined the MTB Arts College in Surat. South Gujarat University awarded him Doctorate in Literature in 1971. Daksha Vyas (born 26 December 1941) is a Gujarati poet, critic and editor from Gujarat, India. Life Daksha Vyas was born on 26 December 1941 at Vyara (now in Tapi district, Gujarat). She completed primary and secondary education in Vyara. She received B. A. in 1962 from Surat, M. A. in 1965 and Ph. D. in 1978 for her thesis ''Swatantryottar Gujarati Kavita: Paridarshan''. Jayanta ( sa, जयन्त, "victory"), is a character who appears in Hindu literature. He is the son of Indra, the king of the devas (gods), and his wife, Shachi (Indrani). He has a sister called Jayanti. He appears in various Hindu scriptures, fighting in wars on behalf of the devas. Jayanta also appears in the epic ''Ramayana'' and other lore, in which he disguises himself as a crow. Tribhuvandas Purushottamdas Luhar, better known by his pen name Sundaram, (22 March 1908 – 13 January 1991), was a Gujarati poet and author from India. Umashankar Jethalal Joshi () (21 July 1911 – 19 December 1988) was an Indian poet, scholar and writer known for his contributions to Gujarati literature. He wrote most of his works in Gujarati. Biograpy Early years Umashankar Joshi was born to Jethalal Kamalji and Navalbai in a small village named Bamna (now in Bhiloda Taluka of Aravalli district, Gujarat). He had eight siblings including six brothers and two sisters. Umashankar Joshi's father, Jethalal who worked as a Karbhari of several Jagirs, wanted his sons to get an English education. Natwarlal Pandya, better known by his pen name, Ushnas (Gujarati: ઉશનસ્), was a Gujarati language poet from India. Biography He was born in Savli village near Vadodara on 28 September 1920. He studied in Mehsana, Sidhpur, Savli and Dabhoi. He completed his Bachelor of Arts with Sanskrit in 1942 and Masters in Gujarati in 1945 from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. ''Kavilok'' (Gujarati: કવિલોક), a publication of Kavilok Trust, is a Gujarati language bimonthly poetry journal published in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. The current editor is Dhiru Parikh and co-editor is Praful Raval. History The Kavilok poetry journal was founded by Rajendra Shah in 1957. The first issue of the journal was published in Mumbai in crown size under the editorship of Rajendra Shah, Suresh Dalal and Jashubhai Shah. From the 32nd issue, Jayant Parekh replaced Jashubhai Shah as an editor. From the 37th to the 66th issue, Priyakant Maniar served as editor with Jayant Parekh.
