Portuguese Open
The Open de Portugal, previously the Portuguese Open, is an annual professional golf tournament, currently played on the Challenge Tour. History It was first played in 1953, and was part of the European Tour's schedule from 1973 to 2010. After a hiatus, the tournament returned in 2017 as a dual-ranking event on both the European Tour and the second-tier Challenge Tour. Matt Wallace (golfer), Matt Wallace won the event claiming his first European Tour victory. Since 2017 it continued as Challenge Tour-only event. However, in 2020, as part of major changes to the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it returned to the European Tour schedule as a dual-ranking event. Garrick Higgo won the 2020 event for his maiden European Tour win. In 2021, the event returned as a sole-sanctioned Challenge Tour event. Óbidos, Portugal
Óbidos (; ) is a List of towns in Portugal, town and a municipality in the Oeste Subregion, Oeste region, historical province of Estremadura Province (1936–1976), Estremadura and the Leiria district. The town proper has approximately 3,100 inhabitants. The municipality population in 2011 was 11,772 covering an area of . History The name "Óbidos" is a Latinised (oppidum, citadel) derivation of the older Celtic "Eburobricio". The municipality grew from a Roman settlement near the foothills of an elevated escarpment. The region of Óbidos, extending from the Atlantic to the interior of Estremadura Province (1936–76), Estremadura Province along the rivers and lakes has been inhabited since the late Paleolithic. Adrian Meronk
Adrian Meronk (born 31 May 1993) is a Polish professional golfer who plays as a member of Cleeks GC as part of the LIV Golf League. He won the 2022 Horizon Irish Open, becoming the first Polish golfer to win on the European Tour. Early life Meronk was born in Hamburg, Germany, and at the age of two his family returned to Poland. They settled in Pniewy, near Poznań, and lived there for ten years. He attended high school in Wrocław, prior to moving to the United States to study. Amateur career Meronk attended East Tennessee State University from 2012 to 2016. Meronk represented Poland in the Eisenhower Trophy in 2012, 2014, 2016. In 2012 he was tied for 7th place as an individual. In 2016 Poland finished 8th with Meronk tied for 3rd place as an individual. Pep Anglès
} Josep Anglès Ros (born 27 March 1993) is a Spanish professional golfer from Barcelona and European Tour player. He was runner-up at the 2020 Open de Portugal and the 2021 Mallorca Golf Open. Early life and amateur career Anglès grew up in Sant Andreu de Llavaneres, thirty minutes north of Barcelona, and learned to play at the local par-3 course. Representing Spain, Anglès won the 2011 European Boys' Team Championship, and the 2014 European Amateur Team Championship, both times with a team that included Jon Rahm. He also won the 2014 Palmer Cup with the Europe team. Anglès played college golf at the University of Central Arkansas with the Central Arkansas Bears men's golf team between 2011 and 2015. 2020 European Tour
The 2020 European Tour was the 49th season of the European Tour, the main professional golf tour in Europe since its inaugural season in 1972. Planned changes for 2020 Rule changes In order to combat slow play, from the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship onwards, regulations were introduced whereby a player would receive a one-stroke penalty for two bad times during a tournament. Scheduling changes With the addition of golf at the Olympic Games to the schedule in 2020, the Irish Open was moved to May from its previous date in July in order to avoid a clash with the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, which had already been moved to avoid the Olympics. Frédéric Lacroix
Frédéric Lacroix (born 23 February 1995) is a French professional golfer and European Tour player. Early life and amateur career Lacroix was born in Paris and took up golf at age 8 playing at the Fourqueux golf course, after his family moved to Saint-Germain-en-Laye. At the end of 2013, Lacroix enrolled at the University of Mannheim in Germany, where he trained at Golf Club St. Leon-Rot for two and a half years. In 2016, he enrolled at Paris Dauphine University where he graduated in December 2018 with a degree in management. Lacroix enjoyed a successful amateur career. Marcel Schneider (golfer)
Marcel Schneider (born 6 February 1990) is a German professional golfer who plays on the European Tour and the Challenge Tour. He has won three times on the Challenge Tour, the 2018 Swiss Challenge and the 2021 Kaskáda Golf Challenge and Open de Portugal. Amateur career Schneider had a successful year in 2012. At the start of the year, he won the Australian Amateur beating Daniel Nisbet at the 37th hole in the final. During the year he played in the Bonallack Trophy and the St Andrews Trophy and he was part of the German team that took a joint bronze medal in the Eisenhower Trophy in Turkey. 2021 Challenge Tour
The 2021 Challenge Tour was the 33rd season of the Challenge Tour, the official development tour to the European Tour. Changes for 2021 Similarly to 2020, the season was due to begin in February with three tournaments in South Africa co-sanctioned with the Sunshine Tour, but in mid-January the South African swing was postponed to April/May because of COVID-19 pandemic concerns. The official schedule announcement was made on 27 January 2021. In April two back-to-back events in Sweden in May were added. In-season changes In August, it was announced that the Hainan Open and the Foshan Open; both played in China, were cancelled.
