Portrack Shamrocks F.C.
Portrack Shamrocks Football Club was an association football club from Portrack, near Stockton-on-Tees, England. History The club was founded in 1921, originally under the name Stockton Shamrocks, changing to Portrack Shamrocks before the 1932–33 season. For much of its existence, the club's chief backer was comedian Jimmy James. Many of the club's players came from the Stockton Malleable ironworks. Its greatest successes came in Teesside football, winning the Teesside Football League in 1949–50 and 1955–56, and the equivalent knockout competition - the Macmillan Bowl - in 1947–48, and three times in a row from 1954–55 to 1956–57. The club also won the Ellis Cup, which had started out as the South Bank Amateur Challenge Cup, in 1952–53, having been runner-up in 1938–39 and 1944–45. Matt Busby
Sir Alexander Matthew Busby (26 May 1909 – 20 January 1994) was a Scottish football player and manager, who managed Manchester United between 1945 and 1969 and again for the second half of the 1970–71 season. He was the first manager of an English team to win the European Cup and is widely regarded as one of the greatest managers of all time. Before going into management, Busby was a player for two of Manchester United's greatest rivals, Manchester City and Liverpool. During his time at City, Busby played in two FA Cup Finals, winning one of them. After his playing career was interrupted by the Second World War, Busby was offered the job of assistant coach at Liverpool, but they were unwilling to give him the control that he wanted over the first team. Hartlepool ( ) is a seaside resort, seaside and port town in County Durham, England. It is governed by a unitary authority borough Borough of Hartlepool, named after the town. The borough is part of the devolved Tees Valley area with an estimated population of 92,600. The old town was founded in the 7th century, around the monastery of Hartlepool Abbey, on a headland. As the village grew into a town, in the Middle Ages, its harbour served as the County Palatine of Durham's official port. Derby County Football Club () is a professional association football club in Derby, England. They compete in the EFL Championship, the second level of the English football league system. Thomas Crilly (20 July 1895 – 18 January 1960) was an English professional footballer who played in The Football League for Hartlepools United, Derby County, Crystal Palace, Northampton Town. He also played for Stockton and Scunthorpe & Lindsey United. Playing career Crilly was born in Stockton-on-Tees, England and began his playing career with local team Stockton F.C., before signing for Hartlepools United (then playing in the North Eastern League) in 1919. He was ever present in his first two seasons and missed only one game when Hartlepools were elected to the Third Division North in 1921–22. In 1922, Crilly and teammate Harry Thoms moved, along with manager Cecil Potter, to Derby County. He made over 200 appearances, in total, for Derby and helped the club achieve promotion to the First Division, before moving to Crystal Palace in 1928 (again at the same time as Thoms). Tom Ruddy
Thomas Ruddy (1 March 1902 – 11 November 1979) was an English professional footballer who played as an inside-forward for Darlington, Derby County, Chesterfield and Southampton in the 1920s and 1930s. Football career Ruddy was born in Stockton-on-Tees and played his early football with Stockton Shamrocks. In October 1924 he joined Darlington, then played in the Football League Third Division North, as a trainee. Darlington was promoted at the end of the season as champions and Ruddy became a professional in the summer of 1925. Described as a "quick forward, with a hard shot", Ruddy spent three seasons playing in the Football League with Darlington making 66 appearances, and scoring 37 goals.
