Porcelain War
''Porcelain War'' is a 2024 documentary film directed by Brendan Bellomo and Slava Leontyev. It won the 2024 Sundance Festival Grand Jury Prize and follows the experience of Ukrainian artists as they face the current Russian occupation in Ukraine. The documentary had its world premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the U.S. Documentary Competition Grand Jury Prize. At the 97th Academy Awards it was nominated for Best Documentary Feature Film. Premise ''Porcelain War'' follows Slava Leontyev, Anya Stasenko, and Andrey Stefanov during the war in Ukraine. All of them join the Ukrainian defense, and Slava works as a machine gun trainer. Even as the war goes on, Slava and Anya create porcelain figurines in resistance to the war. The film emphasizes the purpose of art during conflict as well as national pride. Brendan Bellomo
Brendan Bellomo is an American film director and producer. His debut feature documentary ''Porcelain War'' (2024), premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival where it won the Grand Jury Prize: U.S. Documentary. Early life and education Bellomo is an alumnus of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. During this time, he directed the science fiction short film ''Bohemibot''. which won the Academy Award for Student Narrative. Work Bellomo gained recognition for his short film ''Bohemibot'', a Sci-Fi drama that combines live-action and CGI. ''Bohemibot'' tells the story of a cyborg harpist who, after being forced to serve as a pilot in the last war on his planet, struggles with a debilitating injury and the loss of his family. The AACTA Award for Best Feature Length Documentary, is a non-feature film award presented by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) to an Australian documentary that is longer than sixty minutes in duration and "is a creative treatment of actuality other than a news, current affairs, sports coverage, magazine, infotainment or light entertainment program.
