Pollok F.C. (1878)
Pollok Football Club was a Scottish football team, based in Pollokshaws, now part of Glasgow (at the time a separate burgh). History The club was founded in 1878. The club attracted members quickly (65 in its first season) and entered the first Renfrewshire Cup in 1878–79. In 1880–81, the club entered the Scottish Cup for the first time and had its best season in each competition, reaching the semi-final of the Renfrewshire and the third round of the Scottish. Its Scottish Cup run included a win over Thornliebank, the runners-up in the previous season and reigning Renfrewshire champion club, which "astonished the football world". Pollok lost in both competitions to Arthurlie, who went on to win the Renfrewshire Cup; the Renfrewshire semi-final - at Arthurlie's Dunterlie Park - was decided only by a goal five minutes from time. Cowglen
Cowglen is a district in the Scottish city of Glasgow, within the Newlands/Auldburn ward of the city but geographically closer to the large suburb of Pollok. It is situated south of the River Clyde. Much of its territory is open land occupied by a golf course, and it also adjoins Pollok Country Park. Cowglen was the site of a new military hospital during World War II, which continued to operate until 2000. Pollokshaws ( sco, Powkshaws) is an area on the South side of the city of Glasgow, Scotland. It is bordered by the residential neighbourhoods of Auldhouse to the east, Eastwood and Hillpark to the south and Shawlands to the north, with the Glasgow South Western Line railway and the open lands of Pollok Country Park to the west. The White Cart Water flows through the area. The housing stock consists of some sandstone tenement housing, modern brick tenement-style buildings, low-rise social housing and high rise/multi-storey tower blocks. Previously eight tower blocks stood in an area known as the Shawbridge Corridor; the last of these blocks was demolished in March 2016. Four other tower blocks remain, near Pollokshaws East railway station. According to the 2001 Census, Pollokshaws had a population of 4,295.
