Pokkinen is a district of the city centre area of Oulu, Finland. Together with districts of Vaara and Vanhatulli, Pokkinen forms the central business district of Oulu. Oulu City Hall
Oulu City Hall () is the seat for the municipal government of the City of Oulu, Finland. It is located in the Pokkinen district of the central Oulu. The neo-Renaissance style city hall was designed by a Swedish architect Johan Erik Stenberg as the restaurant and hotel Seurahuone in 1885. The third floor was added and other major changes made in 1920 according to plans of architect Oiva Kallio. Some of the changes were reversed during the renovation in 1978–1982, for example the doors were restored to their original location. The city council has assembled in the city hall since 21 December 1920 and the municipal government since 7 January 1931. Oulu Cathedral
Oulu Cathedral (, ) is an Evangelical Lutheran cathedral and the seat of the Diocese of Oulu, located in the center of Oulu, Finland. The church was built in 1777 as a tribute to the king of Sweden Gustav III and named after his wife as Sofia Magdalena's church. The wooden structures burned in the large fire of the city of Oulu in 1822. The church was built again on top of the old stone walls with famous architect Carl Ludvig Engel as the designer. The restoration works were completed in 1832, but the belfry was not erected until 1845. The most notable work of art in the cathedral is the portrait of Johannes Messenius, painted in 1611. Market Square, Oulu
The Oulu Market Square is the main market square of the city of Oulu, Finland. The market square is located in the city centre, in the Pokkinen Pokkinen is a district of the city centre area of Oulu, Finland. The Rotuaari pedestrian zone starts from the square behind the Toripolliisi statue. In addition to the traditional market stalls, old barns painted in red color and restored as bars and restaurants are bordering the square nowadays. The historical Oulu market hall was opened on the square in 1901 mainly to get selling of meat out of the open square. Koskikeskus
Koskikeskus (literally ''Rapids Center'' in Finnish) is a neighbourhood in the Tuira area in the city of Oulu, Finland. The neighbourhood is located in the estuary of the river Oulujoki. The Tuira Bridges in Koskikeskus connect the city centre and Tuira neighbourhoods. The first bridges through the delta were built in late 1860s. Koskikeskus is built on the site of the former Merikoski rapids, which were lost when the Merikoski hydroelectric power station was built in the 1940s. The neighbourhood is made up of several islands of which only the artificial island of Toivoniemi is permanently inhabited. Other notable islands in the neighbourhood are Linnansaari, Raatinsaari and Kuusisaari. The ruins of the Oulu Castle are located on the Linnansaari island.
