Poitevin (dog)
The Poitevin, also known as the Chien de Haut-Poitou, is a dog breed, breed of French scenthound from the province of Poitou, this predominantly pack hound was created in the 17th century to Wolf hunting with dogs, hunt wolves. Characteristics The Poitevin is a refined, athletic hound with sighthound features. In appearance it looks like a mixture of a foxhound and a greyhound. The Poitevin typically stands at the withers and weighs . The Anglo-Français de Petite Vénerie is a medium-sized breed of dog used in hunting as a scenthound, usually in packs. It is one of the Anglo-French hound breeds which were created by crossing French scenthounds with English foxhounds. The name ''Petite Vénerie'' does not mean that dogs of the breed are ''petite'' or small, but rather that it is used to hunt small game. History and use The Anglo-Français de Petite Vénerie was created from crosses of older Anglo-French hounds with Harrier (Beagle) and Poitevin, and also with the Petit Gascon-Saintongeois and the Petit bleu de Gascogne. The Chien Français Tricolore translated into English as the French Tricolour Hound, is a breed of dog of the scenthound type, originating in France. The breed is used for hunting in packs. Appearance The breed is a typical large French hunting pack hound, with a lean and muscular body, long legs, elongated head with a noticeable occipital protuberance, long drop ears, and slightly square flews. Their size is at the withers; females are slightly smaller. The coat is tricolour, with a wide black mantle, and tan parts are of a bright colour. A grizzled colour called "louvard" ("wolf-like") is also seen in the breed. Faults are listed as physical or behavioural abnormalities, and a dog with such faults should not be bred. The Grand Anglo-Francais Tricolore is a breed of dog used in hunting as a scenthound, usually in packs.
