Podlaskie Voivodeship ( ) is a Voivodeships of Poland, voivodeship in northeastern Poland. The name of the voivodeship refers to the historical region of Podlachia (in Polish, ''Podlasie''), and significant part of its territory corresponds to that region. The capital and largest city is Białystok. It borders the Masovian Voivodeship to the west, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship to the northwest, Lublin Voivodeship to the south, Belarus to the east, and Lithuania to the northeast. The voivodeship was created on 1 January 1999, pursuant to the Polish local government reforms adopted in 1998, from the former Białystok Voivodeship (1975–98), Białystok and Łomża Voivodeships and the eastern half of the former Suwałki Voivodeship. A voivodeship ( ; ; plural: ) is the highest-level Administrative divisions of Poland, administrative division of Poland, corresponding to a province in many other countries. The term has been in use since the 14th century and is commonly translated into English as "province". The administrative divisions of Poland, Polish local government reforms adopted in 1998, which went into effect on 1 January 1999, reduced the number of voivodeships to sixteen. It came into being on January 1, 1999, as a result of the Polish local government reforms passed in 1998. Vehicle registration plates of Poland indicate the region of registration of the vehicle given the number plate. Law According to Polish law, the registration plate is tied to the vehicle, not the owner. There is no possibility for the owner to keep the licence number for use on a different car, even if it's a cherished registration. The licence plates are issued by the powiat (county) of the vehicle owner's registered address of residence, in the case of a natural person. If it is owned by a legal person, the place of registration is determined by the person's address. Vehicles leased under operating leases and many de facto finance leases will be registered at the address of the lessor. Jacek Brzozowski is a Polish academician, public official and politician who is serving since December 2023 as the Voivode of Podlaskie Voivodeship. Biography In 2002, he graduated in history from the University of Białystok. He then became an employee of the Institute of History at this university. In 2012, at his alma mater, he obtained a PhD in humanities based on the thesis entitled ''Between Bydgoszcz and Lviv. Sigismund I and the crown nobility in the years 1520–1540''. In 2016, he completed postgraduate studies in international relations at the Polish Institute of International Affairs and in cultural diplomacy at Collegium Civitas in Warsaw.
