The Pittsburgh Renaissance Historic District is a historic district (United States), historic district in the Downtown Pittsburgh, Central Business District of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 2, 2013. Three Gateway Center
Three Gateway Center is a 344 ft (105m) skyscraper in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was completed in 1952 and has 24 floors. It is the 20th tallest building in Pittsburgh. 2012 hostage incident On the morning of September 21, 2012, 22-year-old military veteran Klein Michael Thaxton (who reportedly had a criminal record, and was believed to be carrying a gun and two duffel bags) stormed into a 16th-floor office of CW Breitsman Associates and took a male hostage while letting at least two females go. Police believed a male hostage was targeted because Thaxton was believed to have asked for a particular male. Gateway Station (PAAC)
Gateway station is a station on Pittsburgh Regional Transit's light rail network, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Until October 30, 2009, it was the network's westernmost extent within downtown Pittsburgh. The Port Authority closed Gateway Center as part of construction work on the North Shore Connector project, and a new station opened in 2012 (though its name was truncated from "Gateway Center" to simply "Gateway"). The former station entrance was demolished and a new station was built. Gateway station and North Side station lie at the southern and northern ends of the Allegheny River Tunnel, respectively. Apartments at River View is a 16-story apartment building in Downtown Pittsburgh, featuring panoramic views of Point State Park and the confluence of the city's three rivers. The facility has 218 luxury apartments, with 2012 monthly rent reaching $5,500 in the top floors. The newly remodeled building, rechristened Apartments at River View, opened for residents in May 2012. Fort Pitt Museum
Fort Pitt Museum is an indoor/outdoor museum that is administered by the Senator John Heinz History Center in downtown Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania in the United States. It is at the confluence of the Monongahela and Allegheny Rivers, where the Ohio River is formed. Fort Pitt Museum is surrounded by Point State Park, a Pennsylvania state park named for the geographically and historically significant point that is between the rivers. Fort Pitt Block House
The Fort Pitt Block House (sometimes called Bouquet's Blockhouse or Bouquet's Redoubt) is a historic building in Point State Park in the city of Pittsburgh. It was constructed in 1764 as a redoubt of Fort Pitt, making it the oldest extant structure in Western Pennsylvania, as well as the "oldest authenticated structure west of the Allegheny Mountains". Construction The Block House was constructed in 1764 as a defensive military redoubt. Henry Bouquet initiated the construction of a small number of redoubts around the outer walls of the fort as a way to reinforce its defense,. Point State Park
Point State Park (locally known as The Point) is a Pennsylvania state park on in Downtown Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, USA, at the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers, forming the Ohio River. Built on land acquired via eminent domain from industrial enterprises in the 1950s, the park opened in August 1974 when construction was completed on its iconic fountain. 11 Stanwix Street
11 Stanwix Street, formerly known as Westinghouse Tower, is one of the major distinctive and recognizable features of Downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. The tower was originally built and named for the Westinghouse Corporation; in 1999 that company went through a restructuring and moved its headquarters to its longtime research park in the suburb of Monroeville, before expansions in their operations necessitated a move to a larger suburban complex in Cranberry Township. United Steelworkers Building
The United Steelworkers Building, originally named the IBM Building and also known as the I.W. Abel Building or Five Gateway Center, is a highrise office building in Downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was built by the Equitable Life Assurance Society in 1961–64 as part of the Gateway Center project which redeveloped a large portion of the area known as the Point. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing property in the Pittsburgh Renaissance Historic District and has been designated as a Pittsburgh landmark by the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation. The building was designed by Curtis and Davis, a New Orleans-based architecture firm, with structural engineers Worthington, Skilling, Helle & Jackson.
