Piers Robinson
Piers Gregory Robinson (born 1970) is a British academic researcher in the field of media studies. He is also a co-director of the Organisation for Propaganda Studies and a founder of the Working Group on Syria, Propaganda and Media (SPM). He has authored a number of publications on the CNN effect. He has attracted criticism for disputing the use of chemical weapons in the Syrian Civil War. Education and career Robinson received his PhD from the University of Bristol in 2000, with a thesis titled ''The News Media and Intervention''. He was a lecturer in political communication at the University of Liverpool from 1999 to 2005 and senior lecturer in international politics at The University of Manchester from 2005 to 2015. The Research, Information and Communications Unit (Ricu) is a British government organisation that produces strategic communications on behalf of the Home Office. Created as part of the controversial counter-radicalisation strategy known as Prevent, is based in the Office for Security and Counter-Terrorism (OSCT), in the Home Office's Westminster HQ. Background and aims Ricu was created in 2007 by Charles Farr. Farr, a former MI6 officer and head of the OSCT. The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) is an intergovernmental organisation and the implementing body for the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), which entered into force on 29 April 1997. The OPCW, with its 193 member states, has its seat in The Hague, Netherlands; it oversees the global endeavour for the permanent and verifiable elimination of chemical weapons. Douma Chemical Attack
On 7 April 2018, a chemical warfare attack was carried out by forces of the government of Bashar al-Assad in the Syrian city of Douma. Medics and witnesses reported that it caused the deaths of between 40 and 50 people and injuries to possibly well over 100. The attack was attributed to the Syrian Army by rebel forces in Douma, and by the United States, British, and French governments. David Miller (sociologist)
David Miller (born 1964) is a British sociologist whose research and publications focus on Islamophobia and propaganda. Miller was Professor of Sociology at the University of Strathclyde (2004–2011) and the University of Bath (2011–2018) and was Professor of Political Sociology at the University of Bristol (2018-2021). He is the co-founder and co-director of the non-profit company Public Interest Investigations (PII), which runs two projects, ''Spinwatch'' and ''Powerbase''.
