Pierre Harvey
Pierre Harvey, (born March 24, 1957) is a Canadian sports athlete. He was the first Canadian male athlete to compete in both the 1984 Summer Olympics (road cycling) and 1984 Winter Olympics (cross-country skiing). Early life and career Born in Rimouski, Quebec, he won three gold medals in cross-country skiing in the 1979 Canada Winter Games. First competing as a cyclist at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Harvey finished 24th in the individual road race. He was also a silver medallist in the Road Race at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton. Competing in cross-country skiing from 1982 to 1988, Harvey's best finish at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships was 16th in the 15 km event at Oslo in 1982. He would earn a total of three victories in his career, including a victory in the 50 km event at the Holmenkollen ski festival in 1988. Rimouski
Rimouski ( ; ) is a city in Quebec, Canada. Rimouski is located in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region, at the mouth of the Rimouski River. It has a population of 48,935 (as of 2021). Rimouski, whose motto is ''Legi patrum fidelis'' (Faithful to the law of our fathers), is located on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence Estuary, around 300 km downstream of Quebec City. Holmenkollen Ski Festival
The Holmenkollen Ski Festival ( or ) is a traditional annual Nordic skiing event in Holmenkollen, Oslo, Norway. The full official name of the event is Holmenkollen FIS World Cup Nordic. History It takes place in March and has been arranged every year since 1892, except for 1898 and during World War II (1941–1945). The event is arranged by Skiforeningen and takes place at Holmenkollen National Arena and ski jumping hills Holmenkollbakken and Midtstubakken. In 2009 Holmenkollen was under renovation and replacement races were held in Trondheim for cross-country skiing and biathlon, and in Vikersund for ski jumping and nordic combined. Alex Harvey (skier)
Alex Harvey (; born 7 September 1988) is a retired Canadian cross-country skier who competed between 2005 and 2019. Harvey is also a member of the Quebec Provincial Cycling Team. Career In 2008 Harvey finished third both in the (Team sprint: Whistler Olympic Park, and the 50 km: Trondheim). He also competed at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec, finishing fifth in the 4 x 10 km, 22nd in the 15 km + 15 km double pursuit, 28th in the individual sprint, and 36th in the 15 km events. In the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, Harvey finished fourth in the team sprint with teammate Devon Kershaw. This is the best placing ever for Canadian men in an Olympic cross-country competition. Canada's Sports Hall of Fame (; sometimes referred to as the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame) is a Canadian sports hall of fame and museum in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Dedicated to the history of sports in Canada, it serves as a hall of fame and museum for accomplished Canadian athletes, and sports builders and officials. The Olympic Oath (distinct from the Olympic creed) is a solemn promise made by one athlete, judge or official, and one coach at the Opening Ceremony of each Olympic Games. Each oath taker is from the host nation and takes the oath on behalf of all athletes, officials, or coaches at the Games. The athletes' oath was first introduced for the 1920 Summer Olympic Games, with oaths for the officials and coaches added in 1972 and 2010. The oath is usually said in the language of the nation which is hosting the games; however, in 1994 both the athletes' and officials' oaths were said in English.
