Picknick (album)
''Picknick'' is the third album by Boudewijn de Groot, released in early 1968. The album was created in stereo. The songs themselves were all recorded in 1967. Cover The cover of the LP only mentions Boudewijn (instead of his full name). On the original pressing, both LP sides have their own names: "Picknick" and "De Tuin der Lusten". On reprints they both have the same name: "Picknick". Boudewijn De Groot
Frank Boudewijn de Groot (; born 20 May 1944) is a Dutch singer-songwriter, known for "'' Welterusten mijnheer de president''" (1966). Biography Youth Boudewijn de Groot was born in wartime occupied Dutch East Indies in 1944 in a Japanese concentration camp close to Batavia (today known as Jakarta) where his mother died in June 1945. In 1946, he and his family returned to the Netherlands. De Groot's father, however, was obliged to return to Indonesia, so De Groot went to stay with his aunt in Haarlem. In 1951, his father came back and in 1952, the family moved, with his new stepmother, to Heemstede. De Groot lived in Heemstede in the same street as one of his future lyricists, Lennaert Nijgh, who was a friend of De Groot's stepbrother. The Fool (design Collective)
The Fool were a Dutch design collective and band in the psychedelic style of art in British popular music in the late 1960s. They worked closely with The Beatles in London, painting George Harrison's Mini car, John Lennon's piano and a three story high psychedelic mural on the outside of the Apple Boutique on Baker Street (since painted over). The group was named in reference to the Fool tarot card. The original members were Dutch artists Simon Posthuma (1 February 1939 – 28 February 2020) and Marijke Koger (born 6 November 1943), who were discovered by photographer Karl Ferris among the hippie community on the Spanish island of Ibiza in 1966. He took photographs of clothes they designed, and sent them to London where they were published in ''The Times''. Ferris took The Fool back to London, and together they opened a studio, with the Dutch artists producing clothes and art, and Ferris pursuing photography. Psychedelic Rock
Psychedelic rock is a rock music Music genre, genre that is inspired, influenced, or representative of psychedelia, psychedelic culture, which is centered on perception-altering hallucinogenic drugs. Lennaert Nijgh
Lennaert Herman Nijgh (January 29, 1945 in Haarlem – November 28, 2002 in Haarlem) was a Dutch lyricist. Nijgh was most commonly known as the lyricist for Boudewijn de Groot. Biography Nijgh was an only child and grew up in Heemstede. He went to the Coornhert Lyceum in Haarlem, together with his childhood friend Boudewijn de Groot. After two years Nijgh left the school, claiming that he was thrown out. He continued his education at the Kennemer Lyceum in Overveen. In the meantime, he stayed friends with De Groot. He then went to the Netherlands Film Academy, but never graduated. Nijgh's breakthrough started when the record label Philips published the single ''Een meisje van 16'', which was an adaptation of Charles Aznavour's ballad ''Une enfant (de seize ans)'', and was sung by Boudewijn de Groot. Picknick (single)
A picnic is a meal taken outdoors ( ''al fresco'') as part of an excursion, especially in scenic surroundings, such as a park, lakeside, or other place affording an interesting view, or else in conjunction with a public event such as preceding an open-air theater performance, and usually in summer or spring. It is different from other meals because it requires free time to leave home.
