Piagailoe Atoll
Piagailoe Atoll is an uninhabited atoll in the State of Yap in the Federated States of Micronesia, geographically part of the Caroline Islands. It is located 71 kilometers northeast of Lamotrek, 71 kilometers northwest of Satawal and 945 kilometers southeast of Yap island. This atoll lies at the western end of a chain of submarine mountains that extend westwards of the Gray Feather Bank for about 180 km. The Condor Reef, Pikelot and the Oraitilipu Bank belong to this underwater feature as well. In order to distinguish this atoll from Fayu (East Fayu) Atoll in Chuuk State, located about 500 km to the east, this atoll is also known as West Fayu. The atoll is roughly 7 km long and 3.5 km wide in its widest area. The 5.6 km2 lagoon has a passage into it located in the southwestern fringe of the reef. Its maximum depth is 38 m. An atoll () is a ring-shaped island, including a coral rim that encircles a lagoon. There may be coral islands or cays on the rim. Lamotrek () is a coral atoll of three islands in the central Caroline Islands in the Pacific Ocean, and forms a legislative district in Yap State in the Federated States of Micronesia. The atoll is located approximately east of Elato. The population of Lamotrek was 373 in 2000, living on almost 1 km2. Satawal
Satawal is a solitary coral atoll of one island with about 500 people on just over 1 km2 located in the Caroline Islands in the Pacific Ocean. It forms a legislative district in Yap State in the Federated States of Micronesia. Satawal is the easternmost island in the Yap island group and is located approximately east of Lamotrek. Name The name of the island goes back to Proto-Chuukic ''*tadawana'', making it etymologically related to Satawan. Condor Reef
Condor is the common name for two species of New World vultures, each in a monotypic genus. The name derives from the Quechua ''kuntur''. They are the largest flying land birds in the Western Hemisphere. One species, the Andean condor (''Vultur gryphus''), inhabits the Andean mountains. Pikelot
Pikelot Island is one of the outer islands of the Yap State, State of Yap, part of the Federated States of Micronesia. It is a low coral island, coral islet, with a wet, tropical climate. It is uninhabited. Since the 1970s, sailors have stranded on the island on several occasions. Flora and fauna The island is known to have a rich ecosystem, with forest and scrubland, scrub; and extensive fringing reefs. The islet is also home to a major seabird rookery, turtle nesting area and a few mangroves. Inhabitants The islet has no permanent inhabitants, but because of the beautiful wildlife, there are often temporary visitors from surrounding atolls, such as Puluwat and Satawal, on turtle hunting expeditions. Fayu Atoll
Fayu Atoll (also called East Fayu) is an uninhabited atoll in the state of Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia. It is located 36 km to the west of Nomwin Atoll and 104 km north of Chuuk Lagoon. In order to distinguish this atoll from West Fayu (also called Piagailoe Atoll) in Yap State, located about 500 km to the west, this atoll is also known as East Fayu. The atoll is roughly 2.7 km long and 1.4 km wide in its widest place. It has a surface of 2,5 km2. The atoll is composed of a reef shelf with a very shallow lagoon on it. There are two islands in the middle of the lagoon, located closely together, with a total surface of about 40 ha. Although presently uninhabited, the atoll had a population of 50 inhabitants in 1860.
