Phyllotopsis Nidulans
''Phyllotopsis nidulans'', commonly known as the mock oyster or the orange oyster, is a species of fungus in the family Phyllotopsidaceae. The fungus basidiocarp, fruit body consists of a fan-shaped, light orange fuzzy pileus (mycology), cap up to wide that grows singly or in overlapping clusters. On the cap underside are crowded orange lamella (mycology), gills. Mock oyster mushrooms have an unpleasant odor and are regarded as inedible. It is widely dispersed in temperate zones of the Northern Hemisphere, where it grows on decaying wood. Taxonomy The mock oyster was first species description, described scientifically in 1798 by Christian Hendrik Persoon as ''Agaricus nidulans''. The Phyllotopsidaceae are a family of fungi in the order Agaricales. Basidiocarps are either clavarioid ('' Macrotyphula''), agaricoid ('' Tricholomopsis''), or cyphelloid. Marcel Locquin originally established the family on the basis of shared morphological characteristics, but did not validly publish it. The name was later validated by Olariaga and the family was expanded to contain other genera as a result of molecular research, based on cladistic analysis of DNA sequences. Marinus Anton Donk
Marinus Anton Donk (14 August 1908 – 2 September 1972) was a Dutch mycology, mycologist. He specialized in the Taxonomy (biology), taxonomy and nomenclature of mushrooms. Rolf Singer wrote in his obituary that he was "one of the most outstanding figures of contemporary mycology." Early life Donk was born in Situbondo, East Java in 1908, and completed secondary school in The Hague, Netherlands. He studied biology at the University of Utrecht, starting in 1927. As a graduate student in mycology he completed the work for his 1931 "Revisie van de Nederlandse Heterobasidiomyceteae" (Revision of the Dutch Heterobasidiomycetes). He completed his studies and attained a doctorate degree in 1933 with the second part of his work, ''Revisie van de Nederlandse Heterobasidiomyceteae II''. Rolf Singer
Rolf Singer (June 23, 1906 – January 18, 1994) was a German mycologist and Taxonomy (biology), taxonomist of gilled mushrooms (agarics). He wrote the book "The Agaricales in Modern Taxonomy (biology), Taxonomy". He fled to various countries during the Nazism, Nazi period, pursuing mycology in the Soviet Union, Argentina, and finally the United States, as mycologist at the Field Museum in Chicago. Career After receiving his Ph.D. at the University of Vienna in 1931 he worked in Munich. By 1933, however, Singer left Germany for Vienna due to the political deterioration in Germany. There he met his wife, Martha Singer. From Vienna, Singer and his wife went to Barcelona, Spain, where Singer was appointed assistant professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Christiaan Hendrik Persoon (31 December 1761 – 16 November 1836) was a Cape Colony mycologist who is recognized as one of the founders of mycology, mycological Taxonomy (biology), taxonomy. Early life Persoon was born in Cape Colony at the Cape of Good Hope, the third child of an immigrant Pomeranian father, Christiaan Daniel Persoon, and Netherlands, Dutch mother, Wilhelmina Elizabeth Groenwald. Fungi
