Patrick Sky
Patrick Sky (born Patrick Linch; October 2, 1940May 26, 2021) was an American musician, folk singer, songwriter, and record producer. He was of Irish and Native American ancestry, and played Irish traditional music and uilleann pipes in the later part of his career. Early life Sky was born in College Park, Georgia, on October 2, 1940. He was of Muscogee and Irish descent. He grew up near the Lafourche Swamps of Louisiana, where he learned guitar, banjo, and harmonica. He moved to New York City after military service in the early 1960s, and began playing traditional folk songs in clubs before starting to write his own material. Career A close contemporary of Dave Van Ronk, Tom Paxton, Phil Ochs and others in the Greenwich Village folk boom, Sky released four well received albums from 1965 to 1969. Verve Forecast Records
Verve Forecast is a record label formed as a division of Verve Records to concentrate on pop, rock, and folk music. Founding Jerry Schoenbaum of Verve and Moe Asch of Folkways Records, Folkways created Verve Folkways in 1964 to take advantage of the popularity of folk music. To broaden the label's appeal, the named was changed from Verve Folkways to Verve Forecast in 1967. Schoenbaum was president of the label. History Schoenbaum left in 1969 and Verve Forecast was closed by its parent company, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, MGM, in 1970. After PolyGram bought MGM Records, the Verve Forecast catalog (as well as the entire MGM Records catalog) was incorporated into Polydor Records, Polydor. The label was revived in the 1990s for smooth jazz releases by Chris Botti, Jeff Lorber, and Will Downing. David Blue (born Stuart David Cohen; February 18, 1941 – December 2, 1982) was an American folk music singer-songwriter and actor. Early life and education The son of a Jewish father and Irish Roman Catholic/French Canadian descent mother, David Blue quit high school at age 17, left home, and joined the Navy, but was soon thrown out for his "Inability to adjust to a military way of life." Career Blue became an integral part of the Greenwich Village folk music scene in New York City, which included Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, Dave Van Ronk, Tom Paxton, Bob Neuwirth, and Eric Andersen. Blue is best known for writing the song " Outlaw Man" for the Eagles, which was included on their 1973 '' Desperado'' album. Blue's original version of "Outlaw Man" was the lead track of his own ''Nice Baby and the Angel'' album, re-issued on CD, with the entire David Blue catalogue, in 2007 on Wounded Bird Records. Luis Pastor "Val" Valentin (January 6, 1920 – March 24, 1999) was an American recording engineer with six decades of work in the music industry. Much of his work was done for MGM Records and Verve Records. His large discography includes Jazz albums such as ''Ella and Louis'', '' Night Train'', and ''Getz/Gilberto''. Career Valentin's earliest known engineering credits date from around 1951, when he was credited on records released by MGM. He was the Director of Engineering for MGM and Verve Records beginning in 1963 in New York City and in 1970 was instrumental in moving the MGM recording studios from NYC to Los Angeles.
