Philippe Rukamba
Philippe Rukamba (born 26 May 1948) is a Rwandan Roman Catholic prelate who served as the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Butare, Rwanda from 1997 until his age-related retirement in 2024. Between May 2012 and November 2014, he served as the Apostolic Administrator of the Catholic Diocese of Gikongoro, in Rwanda. He was appointed bishop of Butare on 2 January 1997 by Pope John Paul II. He retired on 12 August 2024 at the age of 76 years. He lives on as the Bishop Emeritus of Butare, Rwanda. Early life and education He was born on 26 May 1948 in Kabarondo, Rwanda, Kabarondo, Kayonza District, Eastern Province, Rwanda, Eastern Province in the Diocese of Kibungo, in Rwanda. He was baptized on 29 May 1948. He studied in primary schools in Rwinkwavu, Rulindo, Rwamagana and Zaza, Rwanda, Zaza, in that order. He entered the Minor Seminary of Kabgayi in 1961. Rwinkwavu (Kinyarwanda: Umurenge wa Rwinkwavu) is one of the 12 sectors in the district of Kayonza in the Eastern Province of Rwanda. Geography Rwinkwavu sector covers an area of 92.32 km2 and lies at an altitude of about 1,430 m. Frédéric Rubwejanga
Bishop Frédéric Rubwejanga O.C.S.O., (born 1931), is a Rwandan Roman Catholic prelate who was the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kibungo, Rwanda from 1992 until 2007. He was appointed bishop by Pope John Paul II on 30 March 1992. He was consecrated and installed there on 5 July 1992. He retired as bishop on 28 August 2007. He lives on as Bishop Emeritus of Kibungo, Rwanda. While in retirement, he became a member of the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance (OCSO). Background and education He was born in 1931 in Nyabinyenga Village, Cyabakamyi Sector, Nyanza District, Southern Province, Rwanda.
