Phase IV (1974 Film)
''Phase IV'' is a 1974 science-fiction horror film directed by graphic designer and filmmaker Saul Bass, and written by Mayo Simon, inspired by H. G. Wells's 1905 short story " Empire of the Ants". The film stars Michael Murphy, Nigel Davenport and Lynne Frederick. Interiors were shot at Pinewood Studios in England and exterior locations were shot in Kenya, though the film is set in the Arizona desert in the United States. It was produced by Alced Productions and Paramount Pictures. The film was a box office flop and thus the only feature film directed by Bass. It has since gained a cult following, due to TV airings beginning in 1975 and also being shown on ''Mystery Science Theater 3000'' during the KTMA era. A novelization of the script, written by Barry N. Malzberg, was published as ''Phase IV'' in November 1973. Plot After a spectacular and mysterious cosmic event, ants of different species undergo rapid evolution, develop a cross-species hive mind, and build seven ...

Phase IV Clinical Trial
The phases of clinical research are the stages in which scientists conduct experiments with a health intervention to obtain sufficient evidence for a process considered effective as a medical treatment. For drug development, the clinical phases start with testing for drug safety in a few Human subject research, human subjects, then expand to many study participants (potentially tens of thousands) to determine if the treatment is effective. Clinical research is conducted on drug candidates, vaccine candidates, new medical devices, and new Medical diagnosis#Types, diagnostic assays. Description Clinical trials testing potential medical products are commonly classified into four phases. The drug development process will normally proceed through all four phases over many years. When expressed specifically, a clinical trial phase is capitalized both in name and Roman numeral, such as "Phase I" clinical trial. If the drug successfully passes through Phases I, II, and III, it will usua ...

Phase 4 Stereo
Phase 4 Stereo was a recording process created by the U.K. Decca Records label in 1961. The process was used on U.K. Decca recordings and also those of its American subsidiary London Records during the 1960s. Phase 4 Stereo recordings were created with an innovative 10-channel, and later 20-channel, "recording console". The 10-channel and 20-channel console outputs for Phase 4 recordings were originally made on then novel 4-track tape, but the innovation was in the special scoring used to maximize the technology. In recording techniques of the early-to-mid-60s, to get the kind of layered sound realized in Phase 4 recordings, multiple overdubs over multiple reels of tape, bouncing down and bouncing across to different recorders were used. This increased the level of tape hiss on the final master, something which Phase 4 engineers wanted to avoid. They achieved in their scoring techniques in one pass what everybody else was achieving with multiple overdubs. Approximately two hund ...

Four-Phase Systems
Four-Phase Systems, Inc., was a computer company, founded by Lee Boysel and others, which built one of the earliest computers using semiconductor main memory and MOS LSI logic. The company was incorporated in February 1969 and had moderate commercial success. It was acquired by Motorola in 1982. History The idea behind Four-Phase Systems began when Boysel was designing MOS components at Fairchild Semiconductor in 1967. Boysel wrote a manifesto explaining how a computer could be built from a small number of MOS chips. Fairchild made Boysel head of a MOS design group, which he used to design parts satisfying the requirements of his putative computer. After doing this, Boysel left to start Four-Phase in October 1968, initially with two other engineers from his Fairchild group as well as others. Boysel was not sued by Fairchild, perhaps because of chaos caused by a change in Fairchild management at that time. When the company was incorporated in February 1969, he was joined by othe ...
