Peter Teixeira
Peter Teixeira is a South African Democratic Alliance politician who is the Executive Mayor of the Midvaal Local Municipality. Early life Teixeira grew up in Meyerton. Career Teixeira joined the Democratic Alliance in 2014. During his time as a ward councillor, he served in three mayoral committee (MMC) posts and became the DA's constituency leader in Midvaal. After then Midvaal mayor Bongani Baloyi announced he would be stepping down at the next election, in September 2021 Teixeira was selected to replace him as the DA's candidate in the November municipal elections. Teixeira won with an increased majority. He was elected mayor on 15 November 2021. Midvaal Local Municipality is an administrative area within the Sedibeng District Municipality of Gauteng in South Africa. The municipality's name references its geographical location halfway between the Johannesburg and East Rand areas and the Vaal and Vereeniging areas. Midvaal Local Municipality the fastest growing municipality in Gauteng due to its rapid economic growth. Bongani Michael Baloyi (born 28 February 1987) is a South African politician. In 2013, he was elected Executive Mayor of the Midvaal Local Municipality. He was only 26 years old at the time, and he consequently became the youngest mayor in South Africa. From 2011 to 2013, he was the MMC for Development and Planning in the municipality. Early life and education Baloyi was born on 28 February 1987 in the Thokoza township outside Alberton in the East Rand. He took an interest in politics at a young age. Meyerton, Gauteng
Meyerton is a small town lying 18 km north of Vereeniging in Gauteng, South Africa. It is situated in the Midvaal Local Municipality (of which it is the capital) in the Sedibeng District Municipality. History Meyerton was established in 1891 and was named after Johannes Petrus Meyer, a field cornet and member of the Transvaal Volksraad. It acquired municipal status in 1961. Since 2001, Meyerton has been the administrative centre for the Midvaal Local Municipality. Many projects have been undertaken to develop the area in the past 14 years. 2021 South African Municipal Elections
The 2021 South African municipal elections were held on 1 November 2021, to elect councils for all district, metropolitan and local municipalities in each of the country's nine provinces. It is the sixth municipal election held in South Africa since the end of apartheid in 1994, held every five years. The previous municipal elections were held in 2016. On 21 April 2021, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the elections will be held on Wednesday, 27 October 2021. It had been recommend by Dikgang Moseneke to delay the municipal elections until 2022. The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) requested the Constitutional Court to support the date postponement.
