Perran Moon
Perran Henry Rupert Moon (born 2 April 1970) is a British Labour Party politician who has served as the MP for Camborne and Redruth since July 2024. Early life Moon was born in Redruth; his father, Charles, was a GP and long-time club doctor at Redruth Rugby Football Club. His mother was a nurse at Treliske Hospital. One of seven children, Moon attended Trewirgie School and then St Erbyn's school in Penzance. Career Prior to parliament, Moon worked in communications for Nissan and Renault. From 2004, he was marketing director at Manheim UK and then at Auto Trader. Until 2024, he was the chief marketing officer and interim CEO of Believ, an electric vehicle charging business. An advocate of the switch from petrol and diesel vehicles to electric, on World EV Day 2024 he said: "World EV day is a crucial date in our calendar as it spotlights perhaps the single largest solution to cleaner air and reduced carbon emissions – electric vehicles". 2024 UK General Election
The 2024 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday, 4 July 2024 to elect all 650 members of the House of Commons. The opposition Labour Party, led by Keir Starmer, won a landslide victory over the governing Conservative Party under Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, ending 14 years of Conservative rule. Labour secured 411 seats and a 174-seat majority, the fourth-best showing in the party's history and its best since 2001. The party's vote share was 33.7%, the lowest of any majority party on record, making this the least proportional general election in British history. They became the largest party in England, Scotland, and Wales. The Cornish Pirates () are a professional rugby union team who play in the RFU Championship, Championship, the second level of the English rugby union pyramid, and are the premier Cornish rugby club. Trail hunting is a legal, although controversial, alternative to hunting animals with hounds in Great Britain. A trail of animal urine (most commonly fox) is laid in advance of the 'hunt', and then tracked by the hound pack and a group of followers; on foot, horseback, or both. Drag hunting or draghunting is a form of equestrian sport where mounted riders hunt the trail of an artificially laid scent with hounds. Description Drag hunting is an equestrian sport where a field of mounted riders chase a pack of hounds who follow or 'hunt' a trail of an artificial non-animal based scent. The primary difference between fox hunting and drag hunting is the hounds are trained to chase a prepared scent trail laid by a person dragging a material soaked in aniseed or another strong-smelling substance and not an animal-based scent mimicking a fox hunt, as in trail hunting. South Crofty
South Crofty is a metalliferous tin and copper mine located in the village of Pool, Cornwall, England. An ancient mine, it has seen production for over 400 years, and extends almost two and a half miles across and down and has mined over 40 lodes. Evidence of mining activity in South Crofty has been dated back to 1592, with full-scale mining beginning in the mid-17th century. The mine went into serious decline after 1985 and eventually closed in 1998. After several changes of ownership, South Crofty is owned by Cornish Metals Inc, which is working to re-open the mine, as of November 2022, having received a permit for dewatering the mine.
