Pennsylvania Railroad 1361
Pennsylvania Railroad 1361 is a K4 class 4-6-2 "Pacific" type steam locomotive built in May 1918 by the Pennsylvania Railroad's (PRR) Juniata Shops in Altoona, Pennsylvania. It hauled mainline passenger trains in Pennsylvania and commuter trains in the northern New Jersey Shore on the PRR until its retirement from revenue service in 1956. Afterwards, in 1957, it was refurbished and put on static display next to the PRR's famous Horseshoe Curve in Blair County, Pennsylvania. Restored to operating condition for excursion service in 1987, No. 1361 and its other surviving fellow K4 locomotive, No. 3750, were designated as the official state steam locomotives by the Pennsylvania General Assembly. In late 1988, it was sidelined due to mechanical problems and a second restoration attempt stalled. The ''Broadway Limited'' was a passenger train operated by the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) between New York City and Chicago from 1912 to 1995. It was the Pennsylvania's premier train, competing directly with the New York Central Railroad's '' 20th Century Limited''. The ''Broadway Limited'' continued operating after the formation of Penn Central (PC) in February 1968, one of the few long-distance trains to do so. PC conveyed the train to Amtrak in 1971, who operated it until 1995. Pennsylvania Railroad 3750 is a steam locomotive that was built at Juniata Shops in April 1920 for the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) as a K4 class 4-6-2 ''Pacific'' type, and it along with the other K4s, was one of the most reputed main line (railway), mainline passenger train, passenger locomotives of the entire system. No. 3750 also pulled Warren G. Harding's political campaign train during 1920 and three years later, hauled his funeral train from Washington, D.C. to Baltimore, Baltimore, Maryland. In the mid-1950s, it saw its final revenue run, pulling commuter rail, commuter trains in New Jersey. After retiring from revenue service in late 1957, it was salvaged for preservation and renumbered to represent Pennsylvania Railroad 1737, No. 1737, the prototype of the K4 class that was scrapped due to its poor condition.
