Penpals
Pen pals (or penfriends, penpals, pen-pals) are people who regularly write to each other, particularly via postal mail. Pen pals are usually strangers whose relationship is based primarily, or even solely, on their exchange of letters. Occasionally, pen pals may already have a relationship that is not regularly conducted in person. Purposes A pen pal relationship is often used to practice reading and writing in a foreign language, to improve literacy, to learn more about other countries and lifestyles, and to make friendships. While the expansion of the Internet has reduced the number of traditional pen pals, pen pal clubs can nowadays be found on the Internet, in magazine columns, newspapers, and sometimes through clubs or special interest groups. Sometimes pen pals are used in schools. Organizations Many pen pals meet each other through organizations that bring people together for this purpose. Organizations can be split into three main categories: free, partial subscription ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

''Twice Removed'' is the second album by Canadian rock band Sloan, released on Geffen Records in 1994. The album took seven weeks and cost $120,000 to record. More melodic than their previous album, '' Smeared'', Geffen gave the record little promotion because it defied the label's commercially dominant grunge rock style of the time. Commercial performance ''Twice Removed'' peaked at No. 25 on the ''RPM'' Canadian Albums Chart. By February 1997, the album had sold 58,000 units in Canada. The album was certified Gold in Canada on October 20, 1998. In the United States, the album has sold 14,000 units to date according to Nielsen Soundscan. The music was written in response to the 1953 BBC radio play ''Under Milk Wood'', by the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas. It has often been cited as one of the best jazz recordings made in the United Kingdom. Reception In a review of the album for ''BBC Music Magazine'', Chris Parker wrote: "Tracey’s startlingly percussive, eccentric piano style and his close rapport with tenorman Bobby Wellins do bring Thelonious Monk and Charlie Rouse to mind, but the cogent pungency of the compositions (in catchy mid-tempo tunes or in haunting ballads like ‘Starless and Bible Black’ and the title-track) is all his own". In a series of articles for ''The Guardian'' newspaper titled "50 great moments in jazz", John Fordham wrote of the album: "''Under Milk Wood'' was an evocative collection of sparky themes inspi ...
