Pech Language
Pech or Pesh is a Chibchan language spoken in Honduras. It was formerly known as Paya, and continues to be referred to in this manner by several sources, though there are negative connotations associated with this term. It has also been referred to as Seco. There are 300 speakers according to Yasugi (2007). It is spoken near the north-central coast of Honduras, in the Dulce Nombre de Culmí municipality of Olancho Department. Classification Pech is thought to have a South American origin, as it shares similar roots with the Guna language of Panama. Pech is the only remaining Chibchan language in Honduras and is currently classified as a severely endangered language. On the basis of shared grammatical innovations, Pache (2023) argues that Pech is most closely related to the Arhuacic languages of northern Colombia, forming a Pech-Arhuacic subgroup. Peja or Peć, ), is the fifth most populous city in Kosovo and serves as the seat of the Peja Municipality and the District of Peja. The Pech people, previously known as the Paya, are an Indigenous ethnic group in north-eastern Honduras. According to a 2007 census conducted by Indigenous organisations, 6,024 people self-identified as being of Pech descent. This Indigenous group primarily speak in their native tongue, the Pech language, which is a member of the Macro-Chibchan languages. Miloš Pech (born 22 August 1927) is a Czechoslovak sprint canoeist who competed from the late 1940s to the mid-1950s. The Pech River () is located in eastern Afghanistan. Course The Pech River system is fed from glaciers and snow from the Hindu Kush range to its north. The river rises in central Nuristan Province and flows south and southeasterly through the center of Kunar Province, joining the Kunar River (Asmar River, ''Loy Seend'') at the provincial capital of Asadabad. The Kunar is a tributary of the Kabul River, part of the Indus River basin. The river has numerous tributaries forming valleys on both sides.
