Pearly Gates (singer)
Viola Billups (born July 4, 1946), known by her stage name Pearly Gates, is an American disco and soul singer and member of girl group The Flirtations. Biography Billups was born in Alabama in 1946. She joined The Flirtations with sisters Earnestine Pearce and Betty Pearce in 1964 and moved with the group to London, England in 1968 where their music was popular. Pearly left the group in 1973 and released her first single "Sad Old Shadow", written by Lynsey De Paul and Don Gould on Polydor Records under the nickname "Vie". She changed her performing name to "Pearly Gates" in 1974 for her second single "Johnny and the Jukebox". In New Zealand, "Sad Old Shadow" was released in 1974 and credited to "Pearly Gates". Several more singles followed in the late 70s on RCA Records and Bronze Records and she remained a popular artist on TV, being a regular performer on the Cliff Richard show as well as featuring in all eight episodes of the TV variety show, '' Hi Summer''. Madeline Bell (born July 23, 1942) is an American soul singer, who became famous as a performer in the UK during the 1960s and 1970s with pop group Blue Mink, having arrived from the United States in the gospel show '' Black Nativity'' in 1962, with the vocal group Bradford Singers. Life and career Bell was born in Newark, New Jersey, United States. She worked as a session singer, most notably backing Dusty Springfield and Donna Summer early in her career. Her first major solo hit was a cover version of Dee Dee Warwick's single "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me", which performed better on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 than the original. Users can catalog items from their personal collection, review them, and assign ratings in a five-star rating system. The site also features community-based charts that track highest-rated releases. Love Hangover
"Love Hangover" is a song by the American singer Diana Ross, recorded in 1975 and released as a single on March 16, 1976. It rose to number one on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and Hot-Selling Soul Singles. It also hit number one on the Record World disco charts. Producer Hal Davis instructed the song's engineer Russ Terrana to install a strobe light so that Ross could be in the "disco" mindset. As the song changed from ballad to uptempo, Ross became more comfortable with the material; she hummed, sang bit parts, laughed, danced around and even imitated Billie Holiday. The distinctive bassline is played by Henry E. Davis. The song was first released on the album ''Diana Ross'' in February 1976. ''Heartbreaker'' is a studio album by American singer Dionne Warwick. It was released by Arista Records on September 28, 1982, in the United States. A boy band is a vocal group consisting of young male singers, usually in their Teenage, teenage years or in their twenties at the time of formation. Generally, boy bands perform love songs marketed towards girls and young women. Many boy bands dance as well as sing, usually giving highly choreographed performances. Northern soul is a music and dance movement that emerged in Northern England and the Midlands in the early 1970s.
