Patterson Medal
The Patterson Distinguished Service Medal is awarded by the Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC) to residents of Canada for services rendered to meteorology. The award was created in honor of Mr. John Patterson (meteorologist), John Patterson, a meteorologist who served as director and controller of the MSC from 1929 to 1946, an important period in his development.. The Patterson Medal was awarded for the first time in 1954 to its namesake after enough funds have been collected. It is considered the most important award for the recognition of exceptional work done in meteorology by Canadians. This is not a distinction of the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society, but it is customary to announce its award during the Canadian Meteorological Congress. Winners The medal was presented to John Patterson in 1954. Due to lack of funds, a 7-year hiatus occurred before the next attribution in 1961 when the SMC committed to fund the award. Since then, it has been awarded annual ...

Balfour Watson Currie, (November 1, 1902 – January 8, 1981) was a Canadian scientist specializing in the fields of meteorology and climatology. Early life Born in Montana, he came to Saskatchewan at an early age. His parents moved to a farm homestead at Netherhill, near Kindersley, in the west central region of the province. Because of his pioneer heritage, he was equally comfortable with internationally renowned scientists or with farmers in the field. He came to the University of Saskatchewan as a student and received a Bachelor-level degree in Physics (1925) and a Master-level degree in Physics (1927). His Ph.D. program at McGill University was completed in 1930. Career He was a staff member of the Department of Physics at the University of Saskatchewan (1928 - 1981), was Professor of Physics (1943–70) Head of the Department (1952–61), founder of the Institute of Space and Atmospheric Studies (1956–66), Dean of Graduate Studies (1959–70) and Vice-president, ...

André Robert
Dr. André Robert (April 28, 1929 – November 18, 1993) was a Canadian meteorologist who pioneered the modelling the Earth's atmospheric circulation. Biography and career Born in New York, NY in 1928, Robert moved to Grand-Mère, Quebec, in May 1937. He received his BSc from Laval University in 1952 and his MSc from the University of Toronto in 1953. He began employment with the Meteorological Service of Canada as a weather forecaster, then in 1959 shifted his interest to research in atmospheric models for short and medium-range numerical weather prediction. For his PhD (awarded in 1965), Robert worked at McGill University on the spectral model using spectral harmonics for the representation of atmospheric fields in global climate and numerical weather prediction models. Between 1963 and 1970, Robert developed the semi-implicit time integration algorithm for an efficient integration of the primitive equations for numerical weather prediction and climate models.
