Patkura Assembly Constituency
Patkura is a Vidhan Sabha constituency of Kendrapara district, Odisha. This constituency includes Derabish block, Garadapur and 7 Gram panchayats (Jalapoka, Karilopatna, Aitipur, Jamapada, Mehendinagar, Bachharai and Bandhakata) of Marshaghai block. 2000 Odisha Legislative Assembly Election
Elections to the Orissa Legislative Assembly were held in February 2000 to elect members of the 147 constituencies in Orissa, India. The BJP and BJD fought election together as NDA. The National Democratic Alliance won the most seats and Naveen Pattanaik was appointed as the Chief Minister of Orissa. The number of constituencies was set as 147 by the recommendation of the Delimitation Commission of India. Parties and alliances Others Result Biju Janata Dal joined NDA (BJP's side). The BJD won 69 seats, BJP won 38 seats. Seats won by NDA = BJD + BJP = 69 + 38 = 107 (higher than 74 -- the magic number). Whereas Congress, which was in power earlier, won only 26 seats (not enough for forming govt), overthrowing Sri Hemananda Biswal from power. Lokanath Misra
Lokanath Misra (22 November 1921 – 27 May 2009) was an Indian politician. He was a member of the Rajya Sabha. He was the Governor of Assam from 1991 to 1997 and held additional charge as Governor of Nagaland from 1992 to 1993. He died on 27 May 2009 at Bhubaneswar. He was the elder son of poet and notable socialist Godabarish Mishra. His younger brother, Ranganath Misra was the former Chief Justice of India while his son, Pinaki Misra is a member of the 11th, 15th and 16th Lok Sabha Members of the 16th Lok Sabha were elected during the 2014 Indian general election. Constituencies The elections were held for 140 constituencies, of which 25 were reserved for Scheduled Castes, 29 for Scheduled Tribes and 86 unreserved. Biju Patnaik
Bijayananda Patnaik (5 March 1916 – 17 April 1997) was an Indian politician and aviator. He served as the 3rd Chief Minister of the State of Odisha from 1961 to 1963 and from 1990 to 1995. He was also the 14th Steel and mines and 1st Coal Union Minister of India from 1979 to 1980 and from 1977 to 1979 and a member of Lok Sabha from Kendrapara from 1977 to 1985. He is the father of Naveen Patnaik, also a former CM of Odisha. Early life Biju Patnaik was born in an aristocratic Karan family. His parents lived in Ghumusar Nuagam, Bellaguntha, Ganjam district, around 80 km from Bramhapur. Biju Patnaik's father Laxminarayan Patnaik was the Dewan of Paralakhemundi Estate under Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati. Biju Patnaik was educated at Ravenshaw College in Odisha but, due to his interest in aviation, dropped out and trained as a pilot.
