Pat Barrett (boxer)
Pat Barrett (born 22 July 1967) is a British former professional boxer and now a boxing trainer and promoter. He held the British light welterweight title from 1989 and 1990, and was the European champion from 1990 to 1992. He went on to fight for the WBO Welterweight World title. Early life Pat Barrett was born on a council estate in North Manchester, England. Barrett walked into the Collyhurst and Moston Lads Club at the age of sixteen, following his brother Michael who was an amateur boxer. Amateur boxing career Nicknamed 'Black Flash', Barrett was trained by Brian Hughes. After joining the Collyhurst and Moston Lads Club, Barrett became an area champion as an amateur, in which he competed in twenty-six amateur fights - winning twenty-four. Light welterweight, also known as junior welterweight or super lightweight, is a weight class in combat sports. Boxing Professional boxing In professional boxing, light welterweight is contested between the lightweight and welterweight divisions, in which boxers weigh above 61.2kg or 135 pounds and up to 63.5 kg or 140 Ibs. The first champion of this weight class was Pinky Mitchell in 1922, though he was only awarded his championship by a vote of the readers of the ''Doxing Dlade'' magazine. There was not widespread acceptance of this new weight division in its early years, and the New York State Athletic Commission withdrew recognition of it in 1930. Mickey Duff
Mickey Duff (7 June 1929 – 22 March 2014), was a Polish-born British boxer, matchmaker, manager and promoter. Early life Duff was born Monek Prager to a Jewish family in Tarnów, Poland on 7 June 1929. His father, a rabbi, helped the family flee the Nazis and emigrate to England in the late 1930s. Career in boxing Four-year career as boxer Duff became a professional boxer aged fifteen, and boxed for four years. According to Mickey, he chose the name Duff from the character, "Jackie-Boy Duffy" from the movie ''Cash and Carry'', though the character actually came from the 1941 boxing movie, ''Ringside Maisie''. Matthew Hall (boxer)
Matthew Hall (born 5 July 1984) is a British professional boxer. He is a former Commonwealth light middleweight champion, having also challenged for the British and European light middleweight titles as well as the British and Commonwealth middleweight titles. Early professional career Hall's professional debut came in September 2002 with a win over boxing journeyman Pedro Thompson, stopping him in the first round at the MEN Arena in Manchester. His very next fight against the same opponent saw Hall travel to Newcastle in order to beat Thompson again but this time on points over 4 rounds meaning that at the end of his debut year Hall has compiled an unbeaten record of 2-0. Scott Quigg
Scott Quigg (born 9 October 1988) is a British former professional boxer who competed from 2007 to 2020. He held the World Boxing Association super-bantamweight title ( Regular version) from 2013 to 2016, and the British super-bantamweight title from 2011 to 2012. Personal life Quigg started his fight career as a child practising Muay Thai boxing at GFC Muay Thai in Bury. Chingford
Chingford is a suburban town in east London, England, within the London Borough of Waltham Forest. The centre of Chingford is north-east of Charing Cross, with Waltham Abbey to the north, Woodford Green and Buckhurst Hill to the east, Walthamstow to the south, and Edmonton and Enfield to the west. HM Prison Risley is a category C men's prison, located in the Risley area of Warrington, Cheshire, England, operated by His Majesty's Prison Service. History Risley opened as a remand centre for male and female inmates in 1964. A category C prison opened on the site in 1990, alongside the remand centre. York Hall
The York Hall, officially known as York Hall Leisure Centre, is a multi-purpose indoor arena and leisure centre in Bethnal Green, London.
