Parque Almagro Metro Station
Parque Almagro is an underground metro station of Line 3 of the Santiago Metro network, in Santiago, Chile. It is an underground, between the Universidad de Chile and Matta stations on Line 3. It is located at the intersection of San Diego Avenue with Santa Isabel Avenue. The station was opened on 22 January 2019 as part of the inaugural section of the line, from Los Libertadores to Fernando Castillo Velasco. Etymology The station is located near the San Diego neighborhood (ex 10 de Julio) and the Almagro Park. Battle Of Huamachuco
The Battle of Huamachuco was fought on the 10 July 1883, and it was the last major battle of the War of the Pacific. The Chilean soldiers, led by Colonel Alejandro Gorostiaga, decisively defeated the Peruvian army commanded by General Andrés Avelino Cáceres near the town of Huamachuco. This Chilean victory effectively eliminated Cáceres' , ending any real threat or resistance in the Peruvian Andes. The Peruvian defeat paved the way for the Treaty of Ancón that finally put an end to the war. Also, one of Peru's greatest heroes, Colonel Leoncio Prado, died as a consequence of this battle. Background The defeats suffered by the Chilean Army at Marcavalle, Pucará and Concepcion, in addition to the decimation of their troops due to poor sanitation, convinced the Chilean High Command of the need to completely abandon the Central Andes. Almagro Park
Almagro Park is an urban park in the city of Santiago, Chile. The Basílica de los Sacramentinos is situated on the east end of the park, while the Palacio Cousiño is located on its west end. The park marks the north end of the Paseo Bulnes. Parque Almagro metro station is named after the park and the Toesca metro station is located a short walk from the park. The park contains monuments to Pedro Aguirre Cerda, Luis Emilio Recabarren, and Diego de Almagro. Fernando Castillo Velasco Metro Station
Fernando Castillo Velasco is an underground metro station and the southern terminal station of Line 3 of the Santiago Metro network, in Santiago, Chile. It is located underground, at the intersection of Alcalde Fernando Castillo Velasco Avenue with Loreley Street. It the current terminal station of Line 3, preceded by the Plaza Egaña station. Construction of the 6.5 km tunnel between Irarrázaval and Fernando Castillo Velasco was completed in 2017 on a budget of 145 million euro. The Santiago Metro ( es, Metro de Santiago) is a rapid transit system serving the city of Santiago, the capital of Chile. It currently consists of seven lines (numbered 1-6 and 4A), 136 stations, and of revenue route.
