Santiago Metro
The Santiago Metro () is a rapid transit system serving the city of Santiago, the capital of Chile. It currently consists of seven lines (numbered 1-6 and 4A), 143 stations, and of revenue route. The system is managed by the state-owned Metro S.A. and is the first rapid transit system in the country. The Santiago Metro carries around 2.5 million passengers daily. This figure represents an increase of more than a million passengers per day compared to 2007, when the ambitious Transantiago project was launched, in which the metro plays an important role in the public transport system serving the city. Its highest passenger peak was reached on 2 May 2019, reaching 2,951,962 passengers. NS 93
The NS 93 (Neumático Santiago 1993) is the third generation of rubber-tyred metro, rubber tired rolling stock used on the Santiago Metro system. The trains were manufactured by Alstom, GEC Alsthom in 1996 and went into operation in 1997. Originally designed for use on Line 5, the trains first operated on Line 2 prior to the opening of Line 5, and today work on the lines 1 and 5. Features The NS 93 series is based on the design of MP 89 series from the Paris Métro, along with sloped ends, automatic doors and through gangways from car to car. Santiago Metro Line 7
Line 7 is a new rapid transit line due to open on the Santiago Metro, in 2027. Intended to relieve the busy Line 1, the Line 7 will start in Renca in the northwest, passing through the city center, before ending in the borders of Las Condes and Vitacura in the northeast. Expected to be finished by 2028, it will add 19 new stations and of track to the system. Its distinctive color on the network line map is gray. Cost of construction has been set at $2.5 billion USD.
