Parneshia Jones
Parneshia Jones (born 1980) is an American publisher, poet, and editor. She is the author of a 2015 poetry collection, ''Vessel'', which won the Midwest Book Award. In 2020, Jones was appointed director of Northwestern University Press. Life Hailing from Evanston, Illinois, Parneshia Jones grew up visiting her neighborhood library frequently. When she was in sixth grade, she wrote her first poem, about her brother. Through writing this first piece of poetry, she found her passion for writing and poetry. Jones graduated from Chicago State University with a Creative Writing degree and went on to get her Master of Fine Arts degree from Spalding University. She began her career in publishing as an intern at Third World Press, where she worked with Haki R. Madhubuti. Karl Kirchwey
Karl Kirchwey (born February 25, 1956) is an American poet, essayist, translator, critic, teacher, arts administrator, and literary curator. His career has taken place both inside and outside of academia. He is Professor of English and Creative Writing at Boston University, where he teaches in the MFA Program in Creative Writing and in the MFA degree program in Literary Translation. His published work includes seven books of poems, two poetry anthologies, and a translation of French poet Paul Verlaine’s first book of poems. Kyle Dargan
Kyle Dargan is an American writer and editor. He is the author of six poetry collections. Dargan is currently an associate professor of literature and the assistant director of creative writing at American University, as well as Books Editor for the Wondaland Arts Society. Biography Dargan was born in Newark, New Jersey. He received a BA from the University of Virginia and MFA from Indiana University. Dargan's first four poetry collections were published by University of Georgia Press. His first collection, ''The Listening'' (2004), was the recipient of the Cave Canem Poetry Prize in 2004. Kwame Senu Neville Dawes (born 28 July 1962) is a Ghanaian poet, actor, editor, critic, musician, and former Louis Frye Scudder Professor of Liberal Arts at the University of South Carolina. He is now Professor of English at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and editor-in-chief at '' Prairie Schooner'' magazine. Patricia Smith (born 1955) is an American poet, spoken word, spoken-word performer, playwright, author, writing teacher, and former journalist. ''Incendiary Art'' is a collection of poems written by American poet, Patricia Smith. It was published on February 15, 2017, by TriQuarterly Books, an imprint of Northwestern University Press. This collection was written as a response to the violent deaths of African American males and females in the United States, with a focus on the grief of the mothers who try to protect them, to no avail. Its title is a reference to the role of fire in African American lives, including the burning of Ku Klux Klan crosses and the burning spurred by riots in Black communities across America. The collection was awarded the 2018 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award and was a finalist for the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. Vievee Elaure Francis () is an American poet. She is an associate professor of English and Creative Writing at Dartmouth College. She earned an MFA from the University of Michigan in 2009, and she received a Rona Jaffe Award the same year. Nikky Finney (born Lynn Carol Finney on August 26, 1957, in Conway, South Carolina) is an American poet.
