Paralamas
Os Paralamas do Sucesso (also known simply as Paralamas) is a Brazilian rock band, formed in Seropédica, Rio de Janeiro, in the late 1970s. Its members since 1982 are Herbert Vianna (guitar and lead vocals), Bi Ribeiro (bass), and João Barone (drums). In its beginning, the band combined reggae and ska with rock, but later added horn arrangements and Latin rhythms. History Beginnings Although considered part of the "Brasília gang", because they lived there and were friends with local bands, Paralamas' proper birthplace was Seropédica. Herbert Vianna and Felipe "Bi" Ribeiro were childhood friends and neighbors in that city. Herbert's father was in the military, while Bi's was a diplomat. In 1977, Herbert went to Rio to attend military school, and met Bi once again. They decided to form a band, Herbert with his Gibson guitar and Bi, which had no musical training whatsoever, with a bass guitar bought during a trip to England. Herbert Vianna
Herbert Lemos de Sousa Vianna (born May 4, 1961) is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, guitarist and record producer mainly known for his work with rock band Os Paralamas do Sucesso. Biography Herbert was born in João Pessoa, Paraíba. His father was from the military and, because of that, he moved to Brasília when he was still a child. There he met band member Bi Ribeiro. When they moved to Rio de Janeiro, they formed Os Paralamas do Sucesso (some still consider them part of the "Brasília gang", along with Capital Inicial and Legião Urbana) with their friend Vital Dias playing drums. Herbert's brother is the Brazilian anthropologist and cultural researcher Hermano Vianna. After Vital was replaced by João Barone, Herbert wrote the song "Vital e Sua Moto", to pay homage to his friend. O Passo Do Lui
''O Passo do Lui'' (Portuguese for ''Lui's Step'') is the second studio album by Brazilian rock band Os Paralamas do Sucesso. Released in 1984, it was the album that cemented Paralamas' popularity all over Brazil, with hits such as "Ska", "Meu Erro", "Me Liga" and "Romance Ideal". The album's name is a homage to Lui, a friend of Paralamas who, according to them, is a good dancer. Lui is also depicted on the front cover. ''Selvagem?'' (Portuguese for "Savage?") is the third studio album by Brazilian rock band Os Paralamas do Sucesso. It was released in 1986. "Você" is a cover of Tim Maia. Commenting on the track "Selvagem" in 2013, amidst the 2013 protests in Brazil, bassist Bi Ribeiro said he was impressed that the song was still in harmony with Brazilian conjuncture. Cover The album cover, designed by Ricardo Leite, depicts bassist Bi Ribeiro's brother, Pedro Ribeiro, in a camp at a cerrado area near Brasília, now occupied by a residential condominium. The picture was taken after one week of no shower and limited food. Each camper dressed like a character and Pedro chose to be a "savage", wearing a judo belt and holding a bow given by a native Brazilian and with which they intended to hunt some birds. Felipe de Nóbrega Ribeiro, better known as Bi Ribeiro (March 30, 1961 in Rio de Janeiro) is a bass player. Since 1977, he is the bass player of the Brazilian rock band Os Paralamas do Sucesso. ''Rock in Rio'' is a recurring music festival originating in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It later branched into other locations such as Lisbon, Madrid and Las Vegas. Os Mutantes (meaning '' the mutants''; ) are an influential Brazilian rock band that were linked with the Tropicália movement, a dissident musical movement during the Brazilian dictatorship of the late 1960s. The band is considered to be one of the main groups of Brazilian rock.
