Pangoniini
Pangoniinae is a subfamily of Horse-flies in the order Diptera, containing at least four tribes and 24 genera. Insects in this subfamily are distinguished from other Tabanidae by possession of ocelli and the antennal flagellum usually has eight rings. Horse-fly
Horse-flies or horseflies are true flies in the family Tabanidae in the insect order Diptera. They are often large and agile in flight, and only the female horseflies bite animals, including humans, to obtain blood. They prefer to fly in sunlight, avoiding dark and shady areas, and are inactive at night. They are found all over the world except for some islands and the polar regions (Hawaii, Greenland, Iceland). Both horse-flies and botflies (Oestridae) are sometimes referred to as gadflies. Adult horse-flies feed on nectar and plant exudates; the males have weak mouthparts and only the females bite animals to obtain enough protein from blood to produce eggs. The mouthparts of females are formed into a stout stabbing organ with two pairs of sharp cutting blades, and a spongelike part used to lap up the blood that flows from the wound. The larvae are predaceous and grow in semiaquatic habitats. Female horse-flies can transfer blood-borne diseases from one animal to anoth ...

Pangonius
''Pangonius'' is a genus within the horse-fly family ( Tabanidae), often misspelled as ''Pangonia''; Latreille originally published the name as ''Pangonius'' in 1802, emending it in 1804 to ''Pangonia'', but the emendation is not valid under the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. Some species that were earlier placed in this genus are now in the genus '' Philoliche''. Bulletin Of The Brooklyn Entomological Society
The New York Entomological Society and other entomological societies in New York have produced a number of scientific journals since the mid-19th century, some of which have moved between a set of similar societies. ''Bulletin of the Brooklyn Entomological Society'' The ''Bulletin of the Brooklyn Entomological Society'' was an academic journal which focused on entomology. It was published by the Brooklyn Entomological Society. In 1885, it was suspended after volume 7, and was merged with '' Papilio'' to form '' Entomologica Americana''. The journal was later resumed in 1912, as ''Bulletin of the Brooklyn Entomological Society (new series)'', starting at Volume 8. It then ceased publication with the double volume 59-60 in June 1966, shortly before the Brooklyn Entomological Society merged with the New York Entomological Society. ''Papilio'' (New York Entomological Club) ''Papilio'', or ''Papilio: The Organ of the New York Entomological Club'', was an academic journal which foc ...

Pierre-Justin-Marie Macquart
Pierre-Justin-Marie Macquart (8 April 1778 – 25 November 1855) was a French entomologist specialising in the study of Diptera. He worked on world species as well as European and described many new species. Biography Early years Macquart was born in Hazebrouck, France, in 1778 and died in Lille in 1855. He was interested in natural history from an early age due to his older brother who was an ornithologist and a Fellow of the Société de Sciences de l’Agriculture et des Arts de la Ville de Lille and whose bird collection became the foundation of the societies museum, the Musée d'Histoire Naturelle de Lille. A second brother founded a botanic garden with a collection of over 3000 species of plants. Macquart, too became interested in natural history. In 1796 he joined the staff of General Armand Samuel then campaigning in the Revolutionary Wars. He was a secretary and draftsman. The general staff was stationed in Schwetzingen, then Heidelberg, Mainz, Aarau, Basel and Zuri ...
